The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.

durandal when he's winning: they're gonna measure my dick in lightyears, little man. i'm teleporting you into the ninth circle of hell, there's a button down there i need you to press. ciao durandal when he's losing: listen man. we're gonna be ok. you're important to me

I think if you needed any more evidence that the cuts are shortsighted and focused on cutting as deep and as fast as possible with little regard for the future, this is pretty definitive. That engine felt like magic in some spots. A colossal waste of talent and resources.

THIS STUDIO MADE THE FAMOUS IDTECH ENGINE AND YOU'RE FORCING THEM TO USE FUCKING **UNREAL**??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? FUCK YOU

working in the game industry in any capacity since 2020 means that, for the last four years of your life, you have been witness and/or subject to indignity after indignity, knife after knife after knife—in your gut, your heart, your throat

This article is SO fucking funny. "The real problem is there aren't enough 50+ game designers!" Yeah, agreed. Any thoughts on why that might be? Like maybe the fact that this industry fires treats anyone over 35 as "not hungry enough", and relies on burning out a steady stream of younger devs? no?

Yet when it comes to accommodating the needs of older players, Emmert thinks the biggest thing that's holding the industry back is that there are so few game designers in the 50-plus age bracket. "There are no elder statesmen. And I think this has hurt the industry tremendously. We lose tons of experience constantly, because gaming is always focused into a younger demographic... And I don't know whether they consciously do it, or it's subconscious, but it's just a fact."

"An entire generation has now grown up playing video games and is ageing... where they have time, money, and the desire to keep playing. The first publishers to actually see this player will capture a structural advantage. The rest will arrive 10 years late, exactly like they did with women."

Marathon is free to play this week. It is the best video game I have played this decade. I know people who have never seriously played an FPS who have cleared Compiler multiple times; it really is not as intimidating as it maybe sounds, it just helps a lot to have friends. Join us on Tau Ceti IV!
