Forty years ago, in 1986, NYC suffered over 1,600 homicides. Homicides would peak at over 2,200 a few years later. There were 305 in 2025.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

El-Sayed: "Mike Rogers is a guy who wants to put a data center in your backyard so he can make himself feel a little more manly by making an AI video ... he's a guy who went back to Florida so he could lick every single boot Donald Trump owns to bet for his endorsement."

Now I can come out and say it: it is fucking crazy to me that this man is 70 years old in this photo.
noted this in morning piece. like any winning candidate in a rough primary, AES needs to coalesce Ds behind him. Involves outreach, etc. But one of the best ways to consolidate Democrats is to land punches against Republicans. Not just going on the attack but showing that your punches are landing.
El-Sayed: "If all Mike Rogers got is that 'his name is Abdul, and my name is Mike,' you're gonna be surprised how many people are like, 'Yeah, but that's the Abdul who wants to bring down the price of my groceries and make sure I got healthcare. So yeah, I like Abdul over your Mike from Florida.'"

this was my thought. this result allows Stevens and her backers to hold their heads a bit higher, not to be humiliated etc. and shld ward off triumphalism from his.
Class act by Stephens. Important that she got it out so quickly right after such a close raise. (Close race always leaves the #2 in "What if???" territory, but for "healing the party" purposes far preferable to a blowout that would leavee one side more embittered and embarrassed.)
A gracious concession: “I want to congratulate Abdul El-Sayed on winning the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. He is a doctor, a community health official, a Rhodes Scholar, and a dedicated Michigander. I am proud to offer my support as he takes on Mike Rogers in the general election…

American political spending is even more inefficient than its infrastructure spending, which is saying something.
Unfathomable

you have made my day, @sepinwall.bsky.social - you know what they say, “every time someone plugs the middleman, an ida gets her snark!”
The TV show The Middleman would do things like randomly have a shirtless Mark Dacascos fight dozens of Luchadors and use something called the Wu-Han Thumb of Death on their leader. We used to be a proper country.
