I had a rough time with my trilogy: I debuted at the peak of the pandemic. A steep drop in sales for Book 2. Had a bone removed from my hand weeks before Wolfskin was published. But word of mouth is critical for authors. So if you're a fan of space opera like Mass Effect, please give it a chance.

I'm shipping up to Los Angeles next month for @laworldcon.bsky.social! I'll be doing a slew of events, signings, panels and readings, inside and out of the convention centre, with some very cool people. Here is my schedule! Who else am I going to see there?
Latest book purchase! The SFF genre lacks a healthy amount of furry novels, so I am delighted that @aptshadow.bsky.social is helping to correct this scandalous oversight.
I have not one, not two, but three WiPs at the moment. All different sub-genres and formats, all set in different worlds. I am cooking, and I am enjoying it!
I have written to @societyofauthors.bsky.social asking that they call for publishers to compensate the authors whose US copyright they failed to register. That's a *lot* of authors.
Big winners in Anthropic settlement: publishers. Statement from Bloomsbury: 14,087 of its titles are included, for a windfall of $21 million ($1,500 each--half of $3,000/title payout) (via @publisherslunch.bsky.social) (correcting previous post w/ bad math) www.bloomsbury-ir.co.uk/media/press_...
We couldn't decide what to do for the last panel of #TBRCon2026 until this was mentioned.. Biopunk, Body Futures & Autonomy! 🙌 Join @adrianmgibson.bsky.social @annaleen.bsky.social, Chana Porter, @jeremyszal.bsky.social @eirabrand.com.bsky.social, @briewoodfiction.bsky.social as they talk about it!
Nolan's adaptation of Homer's Odyssey is sheer cinematic ambition at it's finest. I had chills several times as the composition of storytelling and music and striking visuals all merged into one. What a privilege to witness such a master of his craft. We are so back.
I'm doing a AMA over at the sciencefiction subreddit! Coming along and asking me a thorny question is mandatory. Mandatory, I say!

I was doing a massive concrete pour for a corporation's new highrise offices. We're talking kilometres of square meters. Long after the concrete has hardened, someone from the company calls my boss. A change in plans, he says, so can we please unpour the concrete. Unpour the concrete.
what are some absurd work situations you can share? once i got called into a meeting i had nothing to do with because the consultant brought an engineer and no one in the room could understand him, so they asked me to translate. he was scouse. i translated from english to english.
This is pretty cool: Adrian Tchaikovsky's fantastic novel Children of Time is being turned into an RPG. The project has since met its goal on Kickstarter. www.andrewliptak.com/adrian-tchai...

It's disappointing to see some major SFF writers, ones I've loved and respected over the years, turn to generative AI, using it or defending the use of it. Bitterly disappointing.
Meta now lets anyone use your Instagram photos in AI images without your consent. SAG-AFTRA recommends that #SagAftraMembers (and all Instagram users) opt-OUT of Meta’s new AI image generation tool, Muse Image. Take action to protect your likeness.

Well, I seem to have accumulated 3,000 followers. An arbitrary number, but it is strangely pleasing that at least 3,000 people on here give a damn about my little ramblings. Cheers!

My new short story, "The Wizard Who Kept Himself Suspicious," drops on July 28! It's part of the MAGIC & MYSTERY collection, edited by John Joseph Adams, also with stories by Sarah Beth Durst, Robert Jackson Bennett, Heather Fawcett, Tananarive Due, & J. M. Miro! www.amazon.com/dp/B0H3TTX6Q...
Someone brought this to a family gathering, and while I am not a whiskey drinker...this was pure nectar from the gods. Every last drop was savoured.
Saw this ad for a goat on Facebook. It’s perhaps the greatest advert I’ve ever read. It’s just superb.
Pagans by @jamesbluecat.bsky.social was an awesome read this year - a detective set in an alternative history world. Really enjoyed it. Also, Stormblood by @jeremyszal.bsky.social - book 3 of his trilogy. Featuring brilliant battles and some intense suffering for the poor main character lol
This Machine Kills Billionaires has an audiobook - and it's brilliant. Voiced by the talented Luke Arnold, I couldn't be happier with the final result. Link in the next tweet for all the places you can get your copy.
So, it looks like I'll be attending @laworldcon.bsky.social next month in Anaheim! It'll be my fourth Worldcon in a row, and the 2nd in the US. Who else am I going to see there?
