Well this is three shades of awesome. Pop culture behemoth CBR just dropped their top 5 list of 'essential' cyberpunk books. Four are much as you'd expect (Do Androids Dream, Neuromancer, Snow Crash, and Altered Carbon), & one you wouldn't. My debut, 36 Streets. www.cbr.com/must-read-cy...

5 Essential Cyberpunk Books To Read If You're New To The Genre

The cyberpunk genre is beloved by many readers, and there are some books that are must-read stories for those who are new to the genre.

Remember, folks: for every author you see on here describing how they’ve filled out forms to get *some* compensation from the Anthropic AI case there are dozens, hundreds, hell THOUSANDS of us who get 0 because our books weren’t registered with the US copyright office yet have UK copyright!

We should treat genAI in publishing the way you’d treat a vampire trying to enter your home. You never give it permission to enter. It doesn’t matter if it‘s polite or makes generous offers or it’s *only* going to take the ones *you* don’t care about. It’s here for your blood. Don’t let it in.

What the fuck, Joyce. I don’t even read romance novels but this kind of thinking pisses me the fuck off. It further pushes that mentality that some books as “lesser” which is bullshit! All books count!

Joyce Carol Oates
This is why Al-generated romance novels make perfect sense. Formulaic fiction doesn't need to be written by hand, so to speak; what difference does it make if a machine "writes" it? There are machine-made clothes & there are custom-made clothes. They appeal to different consumers.

Picked up Stormblood & Blindspace by @jeremyszal.bsky.social at my local bookstore yesterday! Didn't realize they were signed until a free bookmark fell out of the front pages. It reads like a Halo/Mass Effect story (my faves!) though the food depictions remind me of Ghibli 🍜. 10/10 would recommend.

I am fascinated by these anon fanfic writers who swoop in, bang out fics of niche video games/manga with gorgeous prose on the level of Cormac McCarthy, then disappear for 3 months till they've moved onto posting masterpieces for the next niche IP. I admire their work ethic, truly.

"Your brains stop developing at age 25" was a press misrepresentation of a study. They wanted to see if brains continued to develop after adolescence, so the study was capped at age 25. A later study with a wider subject pool showed that brains are ALWAYS developing our whole lives.

this is why it's my pet peeve fake science fact. It's absolute bs! nothing happens to brains at age 25, they do not "fully mature". you will notice that many societies have an age of majority or coming-of-age or whatever and none of them have ever chosen mid-20s.

For reasons I don't want to go into yet: it's been an incredibly difficult time for me right now, for many reasons. But a number of friends in the community are helping me through it. I won't embarrass them by naming them. But you know who you are, and my gratitude is eternal.
