Listening to a deep dive on Victor Marx, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Colorado, and he's my absolute favorite, an adult who lies like a little kid; he claims his birth father was both a warlock and an associate in the "Cajun mafia."
I am filled with anger at what our government is doing. It’s just 10 arrests so far, yes; not a mass pogrom. But the fear is real and this is actual people who didn’t DO anything (except not immediately return to a country in the throes of danger).
ICE has started its crackdown in Springfield, Ohio -- the town where JD Vance accused Haitians of eating dogs and cats. Residents reported "a caravan of vehicles" conducting raids. One unnamed neighbor "praised all the Haitians who live around him." www.springfieldnewssun.com/local/spring...
oh God. oh fuck. I don't want to think about this.
Who's the most famous person whose phone number you currently do not have but could get in 24 hours.
the concern with the Arday story isn’t the fact of the media coverage, it’s the volume. it’s perfectly reasonable that there would be some coverage of the story, and basically indefensible that there was as much as there was.
The alternative to this is people lying with impunity, with the media knowingly covering it up. It's an awful story. And the media will get a lot of the blame. But those who perpetuated the lies and shielded Arday from facing up to them deserve more of it.
Hey Rep. Lynch, I got your mailer, big mistake on the front. Embarrassing! Went ahead and fixed it:
just watched a very wet-rat-looking squirrel appear to jump up into someone's car engine inshallah he will be reincarnated as a Nissan Altima
It's so blazingly obvious that this is true. A university lecturer being fired for plagiarism would not be national news >99% of the time. It was inflated into one this time purely because it fit into racist "culture war" narratives about "DEI".
No, that is not the alternative The alternative was treating like a normal news story, and not a trial by media - one that was so clearly turbocharged by Arday’s ethnic and social background and the growing resentment in the establishment in the UK of having more black people in high places
not sure how I feel about my local hemophilia org advertising a bleeding disorders social event For Men Only. I keep saying I want to get more involved considering my family helped found the damn thing and then I get an event invite designed for me to bounce right off it
It’s so funny that Chi Osse was just gayguy style shitposting and now “woke 1 was crazyyy” has become a doomspelling phrase we’re going to be contending with for the next three years
keep wondering whether a historical analogue even exists for the aspect of our current period wherein our elites have gone insane in ways that are basically unintelligible to normal people
Just another good faith op-ed from the guy whose advice for young conservatives was “stay out of those readily available group chats that use the n-word you all love”

Gwen Moore joins the Hmm Caucus with a 72-28 victory over a nonbinary white leftist and first-time candidate with no endorsements and almost literally no money to spend on their campaign
Don Beyer putting up about 65% of the vote? Hmm Dot Jpeg Caucus gains its first Virginian
it is cool that we’ve designed a criminal justice system essentially opposite to what every piece of available evidence would recommend
We’re lucky crime has been in an exogenous free fall basically my entire life because it sure as shit is not the local PD causing that to happen.
MA-01 primary challenger Jeromie Whalen is certainly trying to avoid the Hong TV lesson; he just added about ten grand in radio ads to the mix (radio is *cheap* compared to TV so that's a lot) and has been airing TV ads since mid-July
welcome to the field of dreams, an homage to a movie revolving around men banned for life from baseball for gambling. brought to you by fanduel
only now realizing the field of dreams game happened and this is all so unbelievably stupid
wait a white primary challenger to Gwen Moore got 30%. huh.
the NJ legislature basically operates as a parody of bad-faith conservative arguments against legislative proxy voting
Fun fact. It’s the official unwritten rule in the NJ Legislature that when a member leaves the chamber during a voting session, a staffer (be it the members office staff or a Majority Office staffer) votes for them. There’s no controls on who does it, or any record of when a vote is cast that way
That’s right, when the website says “X assembly member voted this way” it’s entirely possible they didn’t, and some 20 something staffer making barely above minimum wage cast it for them. And because some members are gone for extended periods, this could be the case for multiple votes.

knowing current US demography instead of 20 years ago US demography is a fucking cheat code in punditry and political analysis but it also drives you insane because you become unable to look at campaign lit without wondering where the Spanish is
okay well that's just malpractice then. something like one in five adult US citizens in Texas speaks Spanish
Tangent to the tangent: the Democratic Party writ large has assumed support from people who speak a language other than English, and the Republicans have successfully invested a lot of money in making this a bad assumption by dominating non-English media.
total tangent but I'd bet one of the reasons polls underestimated Zohran in the primary—in addition to modeling the electorate too small+too old—was that Zohran was very strong with New Yorkers who do not speak English well or at all, particularly those who also don't speak Spanish well or at all.
OH-GOV undervote from Senate is going to be nasty in November Just a continual race to the bottom it seems
New reporting reveals Ohio Republican Gov. candidate Vivek Ramaswamy hired his mother to manipulate clinical trial data for an Alzheimer's drug he owned the rights to. This scheme boosted Ramaswamy's company stock price and generated a $1.4 B IPO, where he then cashed out before the stock tanked.

Fondly recalling all those Patriot Act/FISA debates where surveillance apologists would roll their eyes at mention of Hoover-era abuses: You clearly don’t understand all the institutional reforms that would render such a thing impossible in the modern day.
A jaw-dropping report of weaponized political surveillance. The government grabbed years of sensitive records from major progressive groups and unions, baselessly claiming they were needed to address threats of "domestic terrorism" It's a near perfect mirror of the J Edgar Hoover COINTELPRO abuse
to elaborate a bit: under various laws, certain monies are exempt from debt collection. SocSec & ERISA pensions are protected by federal law; seizing them to satisfy a consumer debt is a *very* clear-cut FDCPA violation *even if* the underlying debt is validly owed and the creditor has a judgment
this makes it modestly harder and, crucially, extremely expensive-for-them-lucrative-for-you for someone who sues you/your parents to take the benefits checks, which creditors (including judgment creditors) are legally prohibited from doing unless they're the government
when you/your parents start collecting Social Security (and pensions, if they have an ERISA pension), set up a separate bank account to receive those checks and only those checks; this also goes for if you're on disability and can manage to get a new account just for your benefits checks.
