Sunday would have been my 5 year anniversary at The Bee. Today I was informed I am part of the massive layoffs happening at McClatchy. I’m Sacramento born and raised, and it’s been an honor to serve my community. I don’t know what’s next, but I know I’ll be ok.

The entire Bee opinion staff was let go today. I’m sad for my friends and former colleagues. Robin is a fearless and dedicated journalist who gives a shit. She is well-sourced and speaks her truth. Sacramento is better because of her work. These layoffs are a major blow to journalism in California.

My extremely smart wife just took the ABPN psychiatry/neurology exam and her description of the preparation/examination process is not making me feel like board certification is an indication that a physician is "good" in any way! Fortunately, she'll find out in 8-12 weeks (???) if she passed!

Prop 45 is designed to benefit sprawl, freeways, and dams (and likely data centers, too). The CEQA infill exemptions from last year already cover the type of housing that we need more of in California.

The California Environmental Quality Act is bad for the environment because it gives litigious busybodies the power to delay and block environmentally friendly projects like bike lanes on the grounds that the government has not sufficiently analyzed the bike lanes’ “environmental impacts.”

A Berkeley bike lane would eliminate 145 parking spaces. Residents are suing to stop it.

Plaintiffs argue that Berkeley City Council approved the Hopkins Street bike lane project without conducing necessary environmental reviews.

I know some people think it's unfair that Robert Reich gets dragged over this every single time he pops his head up online, but I personally think it's great. You shouldn't be able to live down the fact that you NIMBY'd a 4-plex in central Berkeley.

after some lovely friends with a timeshare (points-based) took us to Hawaii to stay at a 2bd condo, I found this website called Redweek that is like VRBO for timeshare owners. You can “rent” people’s timeshare week and the prices are quite good. Eg, 2bd Marriott villa on Maui for $600/night at Xmas.

They're demolishing my freshman dorm :( many good memories there but it was a bit of a dump. www.noozhawk.com/ucsb-demolis... Fun fact: looks like it required coastal commission approval, and they're removing the surface parking and adding new dorms with 4x the beds. No new parking, either.

I am incredibly disappointed & frustrated that AB 1903, my bill to reform construction defect liability, just died in the Senate. Critical components were amended out Friday & it was ultimately held by the Senate late last night — missing the midnight deadline for concurrence.

we can learn a lot how Magyar launched “Operation Cleansing Fire” to reform the courts and completely de-orbanize Hungary the funniest things to me though is that 1. this has been an extinction-level event for Fidesz 2. human rights Watch is mad about it for some reason, truly beyond parody

Mayor Bass is pushing the state legislature to put into *state law* that cities with over 2 million people (only LA) cannot reduce the # of car lanes of a road that leads into a cemetery without mayoral approval. Just to kill this desperately needed bike lane project.

STATE LEGISLATORS HAVE INTERVENED TO KEEP FOREST LAWN DANGEROUS A last minute, back room deal makes it harder for LADOT to move forward. This bill sets a horrible precedent, weeks after yet another person was killed on Forest Lawn. TAKE ACTION NOW: mailchi.mp/streetsforal...
