How about instead we focus on revoking the license and impounding the cars of anyone who drives drunk, parks in a bike lane, drives down a bikeway, speeds, or uses their phone while driving? You know, the actual dangerous stuff.

I thought I had heard every argument against building new multi family housing but I confess “we should not build new homes because most violence against women happens in the home” is a new one.

Today, even though I built in a chunk of contingency, the bus skipped my stop entirely & I had to pay for a cab to my hospital appointment. I'll just wait here for the people who say hospitals shouldn't charge for parking because you can't expect people to pay for cabs to be up in arms on my behalf.

There are bus stops in San Diego that would be routinely skipped by an absolute-rule-following self-driving bus because the city won't remove two parking spots so 60ft + 40ft buses can stop simultaneously. Human drivers "break" the "rules" by double-parking or letting people off between parked cars.

How will these buses drive? Will they be slower than human drivers because agencies and regulatory bodies will err on the safe side of things, for example, not picking up/dropping off passengers if the bus stop cannot be reached as planned because of a parked car?

I cannot overstate how much I enjoy our car-free existence in San Francisco. Walking, cycling, and taking public transit allow me to be more connected to the city I love vs only ever seeing it through a window. Stop and smell the roses. They’re great!

I don't know if anyone recalls, but in 2018 I rented a Dodge Charger (not by choice) and posted the POV that street legal cars shouldn't be able to go that fast, and the thread jumped containment and I met hundreds of nice people who feel having cars that do double the speed limit is a civil liberty

To the California Coastal Commission, this is what optimal beach access looks like. Trading a few parking spaces to enable transit priority and let each bus take dozens of these cars off the road on each trip would restrict access, according to the Commission.

We're 10 days into August and over 1,200 bike lane obstructions have been reported to our app or website portal from over 80 cities. These are the top reporting cities this month and a snapshot of our bike lane obstruction maps.

Cancel Del Mar. Among a host of other things like obstructing housing production, the just 4000 people are holding up existential work on the 2nd busiest passenger train corridor in the country. Huge climate implications if all those people are forced to drive instead.

Seriously though, there should be a state law that allows for efficient consolidation of cities. For instance, if two cities share a border and one is less than half the population of the other, the larger should absorb the smaller.

The City of Edmonds is considering turning their school zone speed cameras on 24/7 instead of 1.5/5 and I'd love to hear the reason the City of Seattle can't do the same.

Everyone hates everybody because the streets are primarily designed around one mode; the car, but are used by five. ➡️ Pedestrians ➡️ Busses ➡️ Bikes ➡️ E-bikes (yes they are separate) ➡️ Cars These are all different modes, with different needs. Designing for only 1-2 is a recipe for friction.

You will still come across a place in San Francisco where 50 pedestrians and a packed light rail vehicle are standing at red lights for 45 seconds while a bunch of Teslas go through the intersection. It's completely absurd.
