I often think about the speed camera chopping vigilante who returned to the scene of their crime on Parkside Drive multiple times but Toronto police didn’t catch them & it led to Doug Ford banning speed cameras for 16 million people & now speeding is at epidemic levels & people will die.

Culturally, Toronto is extremely vibrant (though drastically underserved and under-serviced). Politically, Toronto is stuck in a zombie-like conservatism, shambling forward without higher reasoning, endlessly moaning “Taaaaxes!”

Terrible idea and waste of tokens: a bot you can summon in a Bluesky/whatever thread that will further substantiate your claims and produce backing evidence with links (user decides how reputable?) that it adds to the thread when you’re bored of arguing.
Drove to Guelph thru Aberfoyle tonight. Saw they’ve got some of Dougie’s new speed signs and they are stupidly big. They also didn’t stop anybody speeding down Brock Road. Would love to see the data on the two “Watch Your Speed” signs from during and after cameras.
I think Toronto has improved significantly in this century. That said I have a specific malaise around traffic calming, streetcars, and parks where there are dozens of cities around the world, some of which I have visited, that are just so much better than us and it's not on the agenda here.

Critical infrastructure should be operated by not-for-profit corporations, where there are no shareholders to appease. The second an entity that needs to drive a profit margin gets involved, you’ll see massive cost-cutting measures, added “convenience” fees and other bad behaviour.
