Was gonna say something snarky about this — someone should tell the Dems they just won a big election — but seriously this is laughably inadequate and a sobering reminder of what the Dems are about. If there was ever a moment to demand more than we thought possible, it’s now.

It’s time for ICE to take the masks off, turn the body cameras on, and start answering to the American people who pay for their bloated budget.

this is genuinely wild. The Free Press has claimed across several platforms that Abdul El-Sayed “gave his victory speech in Arabic.” The basis for this is that El-Sayed said (1) his name, and (2) three sporadic Arabic words in different contexts: inshallah, alhamdulillah, and habibi.

The owner of Paramount, Warner, CNN, CBS, etc. gave these racist fake journalists $150 million to lay the groundwork for further violence against minority groups in the US:

The Free Press
@TheFP
Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed gave his victory speech in
Arabic last night. Rep. Ilhan Omar addressed her victory
party in Somali.
And this morning, Iran's supreme leader posted that
America's collapse "has accelerated."
What should we make of these acceptance speeches?

While there were lots of great wins -- VA restoring voting rights to people with felony convictions -- there were also worrying changes to the criminal system that will increase mass incarceration and make it easier for ICE to deport people.

that people read “reparations not prosecutions” and hear “punish the criminals for their crimes” or “abolish the PIC build new tiny jails for oligarchs instead” is kind of a perfect testament to how much this system robs people of their imagination (in shitposts even)

The more I think about this the more irritating it is. It’s not just feckless, it’s actively & entirely voluntarily adopting the inevitable Republican talking point that accountability for rampant criminality is just “getting even.”

"The American people don't want us to get even; they want us to get things done on their behalf." House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is now poised to become the next House Speaker, says that Democrats will focus on affordability concerns and not retribution after their midterm wins.

one more point: whether Platner-shilling or Ramaswamy ad defending, there's an approach to politics that insists we ignore decency in favor of the barbarous because "practicality" demands it. The next time you see this (you will), ask whether you're seeing commitment to practicality or to barbarism

not only was this the first truly decisive election in 15 years, not only was it the first real repudiation the MAGA Republican Party has experienced, but it is an earthquake in the South. with investment — and with laws protecting the right to vote — the whole region could be blue.

This is actually not even a little bit what we want. We want to divide the republicans from fucking power and get them the fuck away from the minorities and marginalized groups they have been massacring. We don’t want to work together with that shit. This is an anti-GOP mandate.

Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.

Elections aren’t the end, they’re the beginning. Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, and the corrupt politics they represent were rebuked tonight and their leadership needs challenged so an aggressive agenda reflecting the clear will of the people can be enacted. No resting on laurels.

I think we should offer thanks to all the Ds who stepped up and ran courageous races in the face of endless media naysaying, vicious GOP propaganda, and Musk-fueled derangement, thoughtfully creating a new politics that appealed to people's basic decency at an extremely trying time in American life.

It’s incredibly important to recognize that Democrats running up the score so high they exceeded the margins of fuckery is not a sign of democratic health. It is a time-limited reprieve to secure the government before we lose it. This was the failure of the Biden Era that cannot be repeated.

Beginning tomorrow in Texas, gender will be on every corner, Sharia law will be imposed at the workplace, children will be randomly selected for mandatory transition, and everyone will be forced to smoke weed. Welcome to Texas 2.

just realized that there’s a very real chance of Fetterman being rendered completely irrelevant in the Senate tonight. imagining his response to that is bringing me so much joy
