Everything is burning and I don't know what to do. But if you want to support queer art, there's never been a better time to play Dread Delusion: a retro RPG where you can domme a fascist into letting you cross a fortified border by spitting in his mouth. store.steampowered.com/app/1574240/...

It's hard to know what to say or whether it's even worth adding to the doom - what I will say is buy your trans friends' weird zine, their album, their art game - buy them a beer or a soda or a meal - give them some ko-fi money for doing absolutely nothing. We gotta protect trans kids and adults.

This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

120 of 2026's best PC games, ordered according to a weighted Steam community rating, skewed slightly towards popularity. It's a wonderfully diverse mix, and with only ~5 big AAA games in there.

Game design isn’t about being able to identify problems. Everyone who plays games can identify problems. Game design is about diagnosing player experience, having intent, and executing. I think to a lot of folks outside dev, game criticism (an art in itself) is seen as interchangeable with design.

What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?

A Brit in the semis of Wimbledon, England still in the World Cup and Nigel Farage spending the summer arguing with a bin. Oh this happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea

It's once again time for me to extol the virtues of the "Laura Palmer," a refreshing blend of lemonade and cold brew coffee. In all my travels I have yet to find a better beverage for a hot summer morning. It's also the best method I have personally found for accidentally consuming 400mg of caffeine

a cold brew and lemonade over ice. around here we call it a "Laura Palmer," get it?

Bethan's Rock is a small grey stone on display at Poole Museum in Poole, England. It was donated to the museum in 2019 by a five-year-old girl named Bethan, and it has since attracted significant attention on social media and become the museum's most famous object. - Wikipedia

As the director of a historical video game preservation institution, and someone who has dedicated his entire adult life to this cause, this is accurate. We have attempted to work with the industry's trade organization to find a legal path forward, but they refuse to offer a meaningful alternative.

piracy is the only extant form of media preservation that exists in games right now, you might find it morally reprehensible but there is literally no other institution that will keep games alive in 25, 50 years' time

Hey folks, who'd like another Steam sale recommendation thread? Let's go! 1. Nine Sols Simply one of the best Metroidvanias ever. Takes inspiration from Hollow Knight with gorgeous hand drawn artstyle, mixes in the parry heavy combat of Sekiro, and Red Candle's exceptional narrative writing.

you already know what's up (steam sale rec thread is what's up) as always, i focus primarily on older, obscure, and just plain weirder games, as big name titles don't need the help. with that said, onwards!

an edited version of the box art for the old computer game Hacker II: The Doomsday Papers. the title now says "Spacetwinks Rec Thread. The Steam Summer Sale 2026 edition". my fursona, a pink kangaroo in goth style clothes, is on the old computer monitor saying "hey man what's up".

at the bottom left on a blue sticker, it says: "Get this, the original boxart here is for a game called Hacker II and the original Hacker game was shipped with literally zero information on how to play, to make it more 'authentic' or w/e. Fucking buck wild, right?"

the activision logo of the time has been replaced by the word 'Kangaroo'.
