Who even knows, man.

I'm going to be brutally honest: watching people speedrun conspiratorial revisionism regarding COVID just five years after the pandemic killed one million Americans makes me understand how Holocaust denial took root in living memory of the death camps. It is the same basic sick instinct.

The great Covid bait and switch - Lawyers, Guns & Money

I find it fascinating how the entire Covid epidemic has undergone some sort of almost Orwellian historical revisionism, and not merely among the right wing, although they are of course by far the wors...

A ballot initiative that sought to direct 25 percent of Portland’s Clean Energy Fund toward hiring additional police officers failed to gather enough valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

“We should return to an older and more accurate name for the Civil War: the Slaveholders’ Rebellion. If a country unquestioningly adopts language that obscures its bloodiest crimes to absolve their worst perpetrators, how can we expect successive generations to remember the new assaults on democracy

It is genuinely incredible that these state senators, the mayor, and governor all had no second thoughts abt cutting an obvious shithead a blank check AND thought everyone would just go along with it willingly. Baffling stuff even if you think it's the right move (which is equally baffling)!

Tim: So you don't feel that Tom Dundon should have to put in a couple hundred million on this thing? Lieber: "I mean I, I, it was not something, it was something that we had sort of talked about, um, it was not something that was overwhelmingly needed at the time.

The cop lobbyists are complaining that a person captured a video of a petitioner they hired committing misconduct and want us to believe it's much worse to document misconduct than to commit the misconduct? They're just mad they got caught and blame other people for their own incompetence.

Portland Police Association post: "I'd like to believe these are innocent errors, but it looks more like a culture of corruption and political bias inside a city election office hostile to police and opposed to this initiative," said Aaron Schmautz, president of the Portland Police Association and a sergeant in the Portland Police Bureau. "Just days ago, another city employee with election responsibilities openly admitted she was secretly videotaping Portlanders signing petitions. When a city staffer colludes with others to try to deny democracy and the voices of voters — they should be fired." See less

It's a big, wide world of delicious cheeses, but Cabot seriously sharp cheddar is a load-bearing cheese in my life like no other. Beautifully sharp, not dyed orange, readily available, not cheap but not boutique cheese expensive either, good alone or with things, just a perfect goldilocks cheddar

People on Bluesky sigh and talk about The Discourse as if it were something required of them instead of something they opt to partake in, day in and day out. You really don't have to. Post about your favorite cheese

As the organizers of this deeply cynical campaign become more desperate in holding on to their signature submissions, I'll add that I personally heard their paid signature gatherers giving blatantly incorrect information to customers outside the Parkrose Grocery Outlet. I didn't happen to film it.

As Signatures Are Disqualified, Campaign to Hire More Police Cries Foul
