Yes. Super lucky at several points in my life, and well aware of being on the Lowest Difficulty Setting in Life here in the US (regrettably even more so today than before). I'm smart, talented and work hard, but lots of people do that and haven't gotten the breaks I've gotten from luck/privilege.

I think to the original post, too, Mr Scalzi has been very up front in the past that his own successes are not purely of his own merit--that he has benefited from luck and from being a white man in America. Acknowledgement is important.

I didn't know you could just sign up and pay some money and then not only get to vote in the Hugos but also get access to a bunch of the materials to actually be informed in your vote! I can't go to the con, but I'm signed up for the virtual events and I'm gonna have a busy summer reading.
