It was preposterous that amnesty characterised a trauma informed service to support women who have been subject to sexual and domestic violence as anti rights. There was an impact on service users and this shows an impact on staff. No wonder those involved were and remain so angry

The reason I decided to spend some more time on Bluesky recently was to find out if TRA arguments had moved on it all in the past few years, or whether you even have any arguments at all any more. It’s even worse than I expected. All you have is unhinged abuse with a tiny garnish of crank science.

Telling women to be kind and inclusive after rape is a way of blocking resistance to rape. Not only does it seek to rob us of the linguistic tools we need to organise and the physical spaces in which we need to heal, it seeks to keep us silent, blaming ourselves.

Back in my Waterstones head office days, there was some statistic or survey that defined a 'heavy reader' as someone who read six books a year. Which I think acts as a helpful reminder that people who read more than that are in the minority, as are people who frequent bookshops on a regular basis.

This is the point that should be made over and over again in the prison overcrowding row. The focus is on releasing violent male prisoners but the majority of female prisoners are not a threat to the public - and should always have been given community orders.

What I love about Bluesky is what I loved about old Twitter: if I want to find out about something (however recondite) there will be someone here (often with a PhD in it) and the time and patience to share their knowledge. /1
