I spoke with @adrianmgibson.bsky.social about how he designed his map for MUSHROOM BLUES, and how that map connects to the story. He's just one of dozens of authors and artists who I had the pleasure of speaking with for AN AUTHOR'S GUIDE TO SETTING DESIGN: WORLDBUILDING & CARTOGRAPHY. 📚💙

An excerpt from AN AUTHOR'S GUIDE TO SETTING DESIGN: WORLDBUILDING & CARTOGRAPHY: "Adrian M. Gibson and his father designed his map of “Greater Neo Kinoko” to be a road map from the beginning. "[It is] a roadmap for where my main character, Henrietta Hofmann, goes as she traverses the city in pursuit of answers to a brutal murder. Having the map of Neo Kinoko provides extra context for key locations, which also offered me a clearer sense of my characters’ movements when writing." (Adrian M. Gibson) Adrian went in with clear goals [for the map]. In addition, the city is based on Tokyo c. 1990, which affected the way he planned out the shape of the city ... [also] inspired by 90s maps of Tokyo and the art of Hishikawa Moronobu."

Supergirl review

I loved Supergirl - woman of tomorrow. It was my gateway back into superhero graphic novels which I'd long avoided because sheesh they can be tiresome, self-referential and, worst of all, boring. A friend bought me the graphic novel because, I suspect, he knew I'd never get over myself enough to take the risk. I owe him a debt of gratitude because the source material for this film is superb.
