I am in the command room responding to the crisis I created. I spin around in my captain's chair and nod at the nearest yes-man that I employ. He nods back. We pay for Slack premium as a sign of our seriousness. We will bear witness to the tragedies of our own actions, like adults do.
As someone who's spent a lot of time considering conflict preemption btwn state landlord-tenant law & local ordinances, I can confidently say the St. Paul City Attorney is full of shit. Nothing in Right to Repair conflicts with state law, and our courts are clear that cities can go beyond state law
The St. Paul City Council just voted to refuse to put the Tenant's Right to Repair law on the ballot for voters, claiming it conflicts with state law even though Duluth passed a nearly identical law last year. A press release from the Safe Homes coalition which has pushed for the law:

Convinced Kaoly Her is going ahead with this encampment sweep this morning despite almost everyone in the know telling her to delay because she thinks she’d otherwise appear politically weak. It’s awful of the mayor to put vulnerable people at greater risk just to try and save her political career.

CoreCivic expects Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees to start arriving at the 1,800 bed Appleton, Minn., facility as early as this fall. with a ramp up to full capacity by mid-2027. The contract kicks in next week. (1) www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

this facility and its mission are sinful and disgusting and wrong and I wish it were not happening. but are you telling me they're going to build one of the country's largest immigration detention facilities in a state which trained and hardened hundreds of lawyers to file habeas petitions??
This is a 1,600 bed facility, so it will instantly become one of ICE's largest facilities. It will also be one of (if not the actual) largest ICE jail/prison in the midwest.

That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.
