One small trick to not look like an authoritarian, plutocratic loon, or worse: don’t advocate for taking votes away from people or distributing them unequally.

Just a quick reminder for when you’re thinking about who should vote in a democracy: the masses won us self-government and rights while billionaires gave us pervert glasses and personal-data harvesting.

YIMBYs: I live in a shoebox on an arterial road and cannot afford children. NIMBYs: Living near apartment buildings in my $3M home makes me inexplicably sad and also furious. Local government: How sad? How furious?

I desperately want to live in a city that is actively bettering itself – it's what drew me back to Halifax. However, we are quickly regressing under amateurish provincial leaders and their "vacuous and controllable" mayor. I don't think continued population growth is assured.

It seems like we had a brief period in Halifax when the constant talk of outward migration of young people stopped, but it seems like we’ve returned to the baseline I remember from childhood.

Andy needs to stop reading Facebook. Someone needs to take his phone away. California has an extensive system of HoV/express lanes and you know what? They were still either mostly empty (next to bumper to bumper traffic) or … also full! 🙄 If the lane isn’t congested it’s going to look empty! Man!

"Fillmore said it’s understandable that people feel frustrated when they’re sitting next to an empty bus lane in bumper-to-bumper traffic" Nothing compared to being on a bus stuck behind a load of single occupancy vehicles.

"The barriers" are that he's just one guy on a council and the other Councillors (except Trish Purdy) don't agree with him on anything, and he's also spent zero time trying to persuade them while marinading his brain in goofy motorist Facebook groups.

“I didn’t fully understand the barriers to fulfilling the mandate that I was elected to deliver until after I was in the chair,” Fillmore told reporters. www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/...
