Durbin came to talk to us after meeting w Todd Blanche - said Blanche said "I made a mistake" about the weaponization fund. Durbin asked for assurances that the admin won't interfere in the midterms — says Blanche said "we won't." Also seemed pretty sure that there aren't many swayable Republicans

This right here. I am economically WAY far to the right of the standard Democratic Party establishment centrist but because I actually mean my liberal views, in 2026 and 2028 I will support an anti-Trumpism fighter even if they’re a socialist. Of course I’d be happier with centrist fighters.

what i’m puzzled by is he absolutely refuses to separate the ideology axis from the intensity axis. moderate ideology + fighter is plausibly the winningest combination right now but he advocates against fighters and for folders as such and declines to see the difference when it’s said right to him

This is I believe the third incident where ICE has gone to arrest people, they flee, and someone is hit by a car or other vehicle and dies. In this case, ICE officers went to question some people at a gas station, they panicked, and one of them ran into the road and was hit by a truck.

NEW: A 28-year-old man died Tuesday morning following an encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations agents in St. Augustine, marking the third death involving ICE in a week.

Officers shooting a man, running away from law enforcement, who is not a target of law enforcement, and who poses no threat to law enforcement, is murder. Federal officers do not have the power to commit summary executions because they are aggrieved.

It took DHS 12 hours to come up with this statement, And the best they could come up with is that ICE shot and killed an unarmed man who didn’t present a threat to the agents. They know they fucked this one up. And it’ll be up to state and local prosecutors—not the feds—to make the case

ICE is beyond repairing. We can't reform our way out of this. Strip it down to the studs and start over.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

A real difficulty for political science as a discipline is that practitioners read the papers (or at least journalistic summaries of the papers) and change their behavior based on their shifting understanding of how things work, which in turn changes how things work.

this is absolutely my hobbyhorse but nothing I've seen yet has convinced me that we do a good job of evaluating how the sort of solution manifold of LLMs diverges from that of humans and that strikes me as so much more important than pure performance

It can't be easy to walk away from a job but we should be grateful when civil servants decide their oath to the Constitution really means something

MS NOW: Two Atlanta-based FBI intelligence analysts were fired last week after refusing to participate in the Trump admin's investigation of Georgia's 2020 election. The analysts told colleagues they did not believe the investigation was justified under FBI and DOJ policies.

Thank you to these public servants for standing up for the rule of law against abuse of public power.
