70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

CBC calls the Alberta referendum for remain in Canada with 76% of ballots voting to remain in Canada
No more dismissive comments about the Alberta referendum—like that Canada would be “better off without Alberta.” @harshawalia.bsky.social argues that the left must take the Alberta referendum seriously, as a sign of a growing far-right. breachmedia.ca/alberta-refe...

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
So if you’re curious how this implosion of the BC Cons came to be this podcast, posted today, offers up a brief history on how things got to this point.

A ninth(!) MLA has quit the BC Conservative caucus – the second today. Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis: “What I can no longer support are the direction, judgment, and decisions of Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s leadership.”
one of the kindest and bravest people i know is undergoing an unspeakable loss. ive got nothing but love and compassion for Lexie and their family during this time. please hold them in your heart.
Hey guys, a good friend of mine has just had an unimaginable tragedy happen to them and anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated. It's ok if you can't contribute, but sharing would be greatly appreciated <3 gofund.me/4d9751ebd
"Steve Bannon was the CEO of a company that did RMT for World of Warcraft gold back in the 2000s which introduced him to the neckbeard gamer community and he realized he could harness it for nefarious ends and that eventually became Gamergate" is a flashbang moment for a lot of people
The WoW gold-farming to Donald Trump throughline is one I still struggle with.
Friends, the magnitude of horrific devastation & human suffering inflicted by this Nepalese glacial collapse is beyond my comprehension. “Direct Relief is mobilizing support around potential medical needs in the region and is in communication with partner organizations.” Please give what you can.

Texas has suspended over 1.2 million voter registrations. Many valid voters in Texas have found their voter registrations were somehow canceled when they checked. Check your registration here and fix it immediately - Texas doesn't always honor provisional ballots cast on election day.

Mildly amused that like, the one Yank DSA guy mad at Canada didnt get mad at Canada for the right reason, which is the fact that almost every evil extraction company in Africa or Asia turns out to be Canadian
if you're going to shit on us at least get the rationale right
The most Canadian thing a person can do is hate something from Toronto
Americans, on behalf of Canada I absolve you from pretending to like Drake.
This sucks, we have to pretend to like Iran and now Drake
a well regarded music critic, Willi Schmid, got killed during the night of the long knives totally by accident. happened to have the same name as someone on the list and the thugs fucked up. political violence becomes a regular occurrence, something like that is your most likely relationship to it.
This is all just the John Wick-ification of American political life. People are walking around with insane revenge fantasies in their heads and narcissistically deluded images of themselves as morally righteous badasses who will bring ruin down on their enemies if pushed to do so.
I'm not a categorical pacifist but people have no idea how bad sustained political violence is to live under. one of the common ways that dictators get their initial legitimacy is being perceived as the guy who made that shit stop.
yes. this exactly glonzo eats everything, it will eat what you care about too, you have to fight its acceptance because you cannot hope to control a rising tide of dumb mferism once it's there
Putting this down for later. I had an epiphany today. A reason to be extremely opposed to AI Data Center Glonzoism: When the Water Scarcity Crisis begins: People are going to blame AI instead of the true culprits (Cattle Ranchers.) "Why should I give up Beef when we can give up AI?"
like I'm sorry but a liberal society needs to say "disinformation is bad even when it benefits me" this was obvious to way more people in Trump 1 but envy (not despair, this is entirely envy at not having to do the harder work) has cooked their minds like breadfruit
also in minimal fairness there are lots more younger people who have simply grown up in this, the audience capture is probably coming from inside the house
this is why people who have been around the block more should be Not Putting Up With It but instead it's "but whyyyyyy can't we have it easy tooooooo"

I suppose we should be grateful the Sunday Times is both-sidesing the idea we should try to cut carbon emissions, rather than dismissing it outright. But it’s still further evidence of how mainstream reporting on climate has got dramatically worse in recent years. www.thetimes.com/article/ed72...

In defense of American/Western foreign policy analysis, can anyone show me a country with foreign policy that is not ideologically blinkered nor constrained by internal biases.
This is an interesting article that makes some good points, so if you don't mind I'll use it to lay out my case for why Canada cannot and should not attempt to develop its own nuclear weapons as a deterrent against the Americans. I think we miss a lot of the requirements by focusing on "breakout".
