Cis people do not understand how much trans people's rights have regressed in just 5 years. 5 years ago, there were none of these restrictions. 19 states banned legal recognition 21 states have bathroom bans 8 states ban gender marker changes on DLs 25 ban gender affirming care for trans youth
Here's the thing, every trans person I know would happily eat a shit sandwich to save the rights of another minority. We just aren't going to fucking do it for a majority who could help us end shit sandwiches but would rather we just chowed down quietly in the corner.
God, even a lot of the cis ones who seem to get it just don't fucking get it.
If I were in Texas I would grudgingly vote for Talarico, even though he's proven himself to be a cowardly little shit. But I also sure wouldn't lecture trans people on being justifiably mad about him being a cowardly little shit
I have really lost the energy it takes to yell about this, mostly because I've been yelling most of my life, and it hasn't brought about world peace yet. But this is an excellent explainer of what the fight is actually about and what's wrong with the "moderate" approach.

The vitriol directed at me and other members of the trans community for having the audacity to declare our votes are not to be taken for granted. By cisgender people who otherwise have called themselves allies. I wish it weren’t so utterly predictable.

As someone who has been covering transgender rights for years, let me be clear about something: When you see capitulation over sports, know that it NEVER stops at sports. And in fact, Turek illustrated this just yesterday when he embraced a federal ban on funding for all trans care.

The funny thing is, this gambit never works. Republican politicians and orgs are trans eliminationsit - there is no amount of capitulation that works. She will get the same ads run against her, and all she will have done by taking this position is to alienate a meaningful percentage of her base.
