Some of us are old to remember how Atari shovelware nearly killed the home videogame industry in the cradle. The flood of AI slop games feels not only familiar, but like the same bullshit on digital steroids. And it's driven by the same brand of opportunistic parasite.

Almost half of all new Steam games use AI now #gamedev #gamedevelopment #indiedev #steam #ai #artificialintelligence

listen up democrats: we did not vote for you for y'all to find common ground and reach across the aisle. we voted for you to crush our enemies, to see them driven before us, to hear the lamentations of their women

Josh Turek says he didn't vote for a Democratic ticket, and instead voted republican for several races. And yet trans people are vilified for doing the same to him?

I can no longer recommend people use Proton products. This is irresponsible behavior from a company that touts security and privacy as selling points. There will be a security breach due to this intentional carelessness. I want to believe this is false; proton was a good company. Oh well...

this story is extremely wild, major investigation from @josephcox.bsky.social: www.404media.co/manifestos-f...

Andy Yen, the CEO of Proton, had a message for an employee in the company’s security Slack channel who urged the company to at least take a few days to pentest newly written code before pushing it live. “That’s bullshit and loser thinking. Of course it’s possible to be fast and secure,” Yen wrote in the channel at the end of August. “Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster.”
In a follow-up message, Yen reiterated his point: “only losers think like that.” His ultimate message for the team was to “stop lovingly handcrafting all our code and use AI more.”

“The algorithm is great at finding me new music in the limited style I listen to,” he writes. “But it is really bad at showing me something new and different. My listening has become homogeneous, even though I can pick any album ever created.” ——— Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before…

Latest from me: on finding fascination, even now, (eg The Wire, Sight & Sound, MOJO) in your town's WH Smith (sorry, "TG Jones"), and the tragedy now unfolding. Result: algorithm culture, the leakage from headphones playing the same things over & over again www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"Is it true, Grandpa Joe, as proven by the photograph presented now to the jury, that you and Mr. William Wonka *conspired* to place the Wonka company, then suffering under several serious legal actions, into the hands of young Charles M. Bucket as a so called 'fall man'?"

⭐️ SNOOZE ⭐️ The Tiny Angry Witch dislikes mornings just as much as we do. It's authentic stop-motion animation. We'd love to have more time to devote to these, so if you know any eccentric millionaires, let us know! Written, built, animated, voice and scored by 4 x people (and 1 x Witch)

Jackie Herrud has voted in Tennessee her whole life but said she had never had an experience like the one she had last week while voting early. “I kept punching for the Democrat, Jerri Green, and it kept punching back to Marsha Blackburn,” Herrud said. www.wsmv.com/2026/10/20/e...

Early voters report challenges casting their vote at Middle Tennessee locations

At the Longview Recreation Center in Spring Hill, Herrud said she spoke with poll workers who had heard of similar complaints. It was not the only location in Williamson County where the issue was fou...

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

Screenshot from a section of eBay UK's r User Privacy Notice.
It reads:
AI model training

When training, testing, and improving generative AI models, we rely primarily on publicly available data. Some public datasets may incidentally include personal data, and in some cases we may also use certain user personal data, such as information about your use of our Services, including the items you list, sell, view, or buy, where we determine it is necessary and proportionate for a specific use (for example, to train AI models that improve product recommendations). Prior to training, we take steps to mitigate potential privacy impacts, such as de-identifying the data or applying other privacy-preserving techniques. In some jurisdictions, the data used for training as described in this section is not considered personal data; where our AI training does involve personal data as defined under applicable law, including in the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the legal basis of our legitimate interest is set out in section 3.4.

See section 6 for more details on your rights. To learn more about specific training use cases and our processing of your personal data for generative AI training purposes, including the right to object to such processing for certain users, visit our Artificial Intelligence at eBay page.
