I make Quake levels and sometimes other stuff the numbers don't mean anything.
The best part about creating things is getting those 5 ppl who you actually made it for pogging out and having a great time with it. We love our Sickos.
almost done with my rooftops jam map! got bored of pasting windows onto houses so I started pasting faces, maybe it's just my thing I do now
I never thought lack of pushback against AIgen in Thief would be what would drive me out of the community but here we are. I will not return unless they take a firm stand against it.
i love this little guy. everything about it is terrible
Wip screenshot from my upcoming Quake Rooftops jam map.
hearing the quake brutalist jams get a mention on stage at quakecon was a bit trippy 😅
I can completely understand how games like Campaign Evolved come to be. You watch someone playing the game, and if they don't immediately understand something it feels REALLY BAD to watch that happen. Designers need to hold back on acting on that impulse though, otherwise you ruin the illusion.
This little project that was supposed to be out in a year is out now, 6 years later. It took a while but it’s great. It’s a whole new full length campaign for Quake with 32 maps and a completely new soundtrack, aimed at being compatible with winquake. I made a few maps for it. youtu.be/ViJMgLNLW08

Found those video clips of MGS1 on the Master Collection Switch Port where apparently Nintendo has a policy against mentioning button names from other consoles, so they literally had to sentence mix shit like it was a YTP and oh my god
looking for a programmer to make a BSP lightbaker through the GPU using ericwtools methods. no genAI. let me know your rate, I'll save up. github.com/ericwa/ericw... making a game in the quake engine and it'd be real good to have, and good for the community.
The environment is the most important character in the game, and it has a story to tell. When designing levels, I’m thinking about several aspects that have to do with its place in the world, what its function is, how can I innovate in its design... 1/2
I want to ask something. When you were designing levels, how much mentally were you in your heritage vs, i don't know, thinking like an adnd dungeon master if at all? Basically, what was your head like when making levels?
It's really sad to see id lay off both sponge and SyncError, their two biggest public advocates for game history preservation, modding, and Quake itself, at the same time. I hope everyone affected somehow ends up better off than they were before.
after almost 16 years my time with id is done as layoffs ravage everyone across the companies. i'm going to be fine money wise, but if you have money to spare, donate it to the game worker hardship fund! uvw-cwa.org/hardship-fun...
I'm heartbroken to hear about the Microsoft layoffs that have hit id Software. This triology of Doom has been incredible and wouldn't have been possible without these talented people. If you need some incredibly talented folks on your team, I have linked who I can so far below.
get in loser, we're texturing our blockouts and calling it a day
Some screenshots from my recent Quake map for Bestiary Jam, done over two weeks. Was a massive rush to get things done in time, though it at least turned out pretty
I'm really proud of what the community has accomplished these past few months, and it's not over just yet!
Quake is 30. Here are 100+ new levels. www.jank.cool/quake-is-30-...
We fought against the grey void and won! Made an entry for the limits jam. #QUAKE #leveldesign #gamedev
I (finally) released the 30th Anniversary Limits Jam for #Quake, just in time for the big day itself! 16 maps + start map made to the same constraints as the original campaign. Go play it here! www.slipseer.com/index.php?re...
I have a map in this set! It was very iterative type of process, since I kept making adjustments to the layout to fit within the requirements. This was also the first time I've tested something I've built in DOSBox.
