Abraham Lincoln is rolling over in his grave at the fact that so much of mainstream and liberal culture has accepted the far right's contention that the original founding principles were right-wing. You could argue his life's work was to assert the opposite, with major success.

The only debate in America should center on different views over the *implementation* of liberal democracy. Not whether we will *have* liberal democracy. Republicans are now fundamentally opposed to it, preferring instead a fascist theocracy. So yes, Oliver is correct.
