Managing the death and the following few months after the death of a parent is tough enough without having to lead the country. Huge respect and condolences to Andy Burnham. The stress must be off the scale.

Thank you Count Binface - absolutely the right question- anyone know the answer ….?
Riddle me this. If somebody donates £36 million to a political party and £5 million to its leader, how is the £5 million not political? Asking for a parliamentary standards commissioner.
What I love about Western democracy is you can bung a political party £ 36 million earned from criminal activity & most media will continue to point at asylum seekers & migrant care workers with families as the barbarians at the gate we need to defend ourselves from 🙄.
Fairly obviously Delo is giving this big a donation now as a precaution against an amendment being successful. Normally a donor would drip feed cash over years to keep some control.
I would note, for those looking to blame Burnham for not passing legislation to block this donation, that the Representation of the People Bill has not yet passed. Even if he'd accepted the amendments limiting donations this would have pre-empted the Bill coming into force
You might have to turn up for the results of this one, Nige.
Govt, politicians, rightwing media… you decided that Brexit meant you needed to exclusively appeal to a stereotypical “red wall”/“left behind” voter who you insisted was anti-immigration because it suited you to pin their disaffection onto immigrants rather than onto you…
When I said I wanted something to distract attention from the £5 million gift, I didn't mean this.
Farage should attend a park run, a game of football, a Primary School in Clacton, a Prom concert before he goes all "Broken Britain" The country is NOT broken. It's millions of people, born without Farage's privilege, trying cheerfully trying their best for their families and communities.
At 18m30s, Jukes names several [foreign/impermissible] donors who donate through family members [who could donate]. The names are withheld from the broadcast - but may presumably be given to the relevant regulators/investigators.
Stop whatever you’re doing & watch this now! Reform’s magic money tree has been bust wide open. Huge kudos to undercover reporters Verbatim via @channel4news.bsky.social youtu.be/aXut3s90rUI?... huge

Tim Curry was not the 80-year-old Home Alone 2 cast member we were asking for.
The difference between dogs and cats is that dogs do absolutely nothing to mask their clinginess while cats pretend it's just a coincidence they're in the same room as you 99% of the time.

This explainer out of Australia is genuinely useful background and analysis of what happened with the Canada-US trade deal last night. Note that it is extremely and delightfully sweary. Also there’s an appended glossary of Australian slang. ifloz.substack.com/p/king-carne...
They really should have an alert to warn you about the alert.
Farage had a fairly easy way to win some of this back – turn up last night, pretend to be in on and enjoying the joke, pose with the comedy candidates, lambast the establishment as so afraid of Reform they didn't even turn up. Instead, he's so tetchy he didn't even turn up himself.
Sky News confirms Essex police haven't advised Nigel Farage not to attend the Clacton by-election result. So starting off his new term as he ended his last one, by lying his face off and showing contempt for his constituents in not attending the election he forced and in which they voted for him. 👍
If the moon’s gonna be in front of the sun later could it just like stay there for a couple of weeks, cool things down a bit
It’s the Clacton by-election on Thursday. Can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed not seeing Farage and his frothing bile plastered all over the news 24/7 during the campaign period. Enjoying these precious peaceful few hours before, win or lose, he’s everywhere again.

Ed Miliband: “My parents came here as Jewish refugees fleeing from the Nazis, and for them, Britain provided sanctuary and a beacon of hope in the fight against fascism”, adding that he would "carry that spirit, their spirit, into my work as foreign secretary". Have a word with Ms Mahmood, please
It's becoming an established attack line that Burnham "has no mandate" and "hasn't set out what he'll do". He's not becoming president. He leads the same party that governed yesterday, elected on the same manifesto. His authority comes from Parliament & he'll have to pass his measures through it.
