Sharing the good and the bad of electron microscopy and related ❄️🔬Ice crystal hall of fame 🧊🏆 #ElectronMicroscopy #CryoEM #TeamTomo

I had such a fun time teaching at the U Michigan Cryo-ET Course this week! I taught quantitative ultrastructure analysis and we made cool figures like these! My course materials are at baradlab.com/michigan_tutorial for anyone to try. Workflow include mesh refinement and thickness measurement!

First post here- Hello Bluesky! Quick science query: These 2D classes are from negative stain of a FLAG pulldown (HEK cell eluate). Does this look like a real complex or a common contaminant? Would live to hear from anyone who’s worked on similar prep! #negativestainEM #pulldown #HEKcells

Results from CZII's #cryoET object detection challenge on kaggle are in! Participation exceeded our expectations with 931 Teams from 76 countries competing, generating over 27,000 submissions. For an overview check out our post-competition page: cryoetdataportal.czscience.com/competition

The microscope comparison datasets (Glacios vs. Krios, EF vs. no EF) from our high-resolution/high-throughput #cryoEM SBDD workflow project (the one with more than a dozen ligand-bound 2 Å structures of an 85 kDa complex) have been released on EMPIAR: www.ebi.ac.uk/empiar/EMPIA...

Was thinking about RELION5's new coordinate system and came to a realization... Was the switch to a centered coordinate system done to make sure that the coordinates of a particle are applicable to reconstructed tomograms of any size? #teamtomo

We received our TFS Arctis this past weekend. This #cryoEM instrument is part of our initiative to expand the #cryoET biomedical research capabilities at the center. SEMC/NYSBC - Providing expertise and resources for understanding both molecular and cellular structures. Find out more at: nysbc.org

I'm going to run an intensive "boot camp" called "Practical Cryo-EM" where we learn how to freeze grids, align microscopes, collect images, and do 3D reconstruction and stuff. January 13-17

FYI: Thanks to @cellarchlab.com's awesome open science practices, this data is available on the CZ cryoET data portal (dataset 10008) and @ebi.embl.org's EMPIAR (11058)! You can check out the tomograms in your browser here: cryoetdataportal.czscience.com/datasets/10008
