Extract: Purdue University seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor in Basic Medical Sciences focusing on One Health. Candidates should have a Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral experience, with a commitment to research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

I'm excited to finally publish my postdoctoral work in @ajhgnews.bsky.social! This work was motivated by two big mysteries in autism research: 1) where and what are the undiscovered genetic components of autism, and 2) why are males diagnosed with autism more frequently than females?

🧬New from @rmschu.bsky.social & co! 📄A massively parallel reporter assay of MECP2cis-regulatory elements reveals genetic candidates for male-biased autism

We studied the evolution of genome-wide linkage disequilibrium and its influence on genetic architecture with genetic drift. We found that the Bulmer effect is population size and demography dependent. For nerds: genetic architecture follows from solving PDEs.

Linkage disequilibrium moderates how evolving genetic background shapes variant-level architecture https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.10.01.756092v1

What can we learn about a single rare variant? Published today in Science: the 23andMe Research Institute and Dana-Farber studied the EGFR T790M in 10.1M 23andMe research participants. The variant has OR = 25.2 for lung cancer, rising to 61.7 in never-smokers(!). 🧵

I am excited to share that I will be joining the Baker Institute for Animal Health and College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University as an Assistant Professor next spring! I am grateful to my mentors and colleagues who have supported me throughout this journey.

Please repost: My department (quantitative and computational biology at the University of Southern California) is hiring a teaching-track faculty member. The new hire will focus on teaching statistics courses to biology students. Apply by Dec 1 usccareers.usc.edu/job/los-ange...

I’m looking to hire an NIH funded postdoc to join our lab here at Davis (please RT). Ongoing areas of interest include: 1) polygenic signals of selection from time series, ARGs, GWAS, etc 2) The interpretation of GWAS, polygenic scores, & sources of confounding

'"At the end of the day ... they're either going to play for you or they're going to play for someone else around the country," Kiffin said at a news conference Monday. "So we've made the decision to recruit them like probably most people are."' - This is exactly what I hear peers say about using AI

Let's talk about AOC as a young scientist & her award winning research on antioxidants & C. elegans, a standard roundworm model. She grew up in the Bronx. Ethnically Puerto Rican, her dad Sergio, an architect, died when she was 19. Her mother cleaned houses, drove a school bus. Working class.

Alexandria with her project for ISEF 2007. A young woman with square glasses, she stands in front of a cardboard display recounting her work on antioxidants.

People just don't realize how smart AOC is. She came in second at the national Intel Science and Engineering Fair. An *incredibly* competitive field. That's roughly equivalent to being the second best forward in high school basketball in the United States.
