Look what I get to take home. Last night, DEATH OF THE AUTHOR won the Locus Award for Best Science Fiction Novel and THE SPACE CAT won for Best Illustrated and Art Book. My daughter Anyaugo was there with me 😊. What an amazing night. ✨
I was interviewed about Sanctuary Moon and other fake TV shows on TubeTalk: www.tubetalk.media/p/murderbot-...
The Show Within the Show
Murderbot's Sanctuary Moon is one of the best shows-in-a-show out there. I talked with Martha Wells about her creation.

You know what's gotta die at cons? Approaching authors and saying "You've got thirty seconds to sell me your book, go!" No, buddy. I have the 'tism. I will oppositional defiance my way out of that sale.

I really, really liked this book, and you probably will too.
Extraordinary world building here (plants that sprout insects! Starships with seasons!), and very old school sense of wonder SF vibe. Way too many dudes for my taste, so far (which also contributes to the old school sf vibe), but you can't have everything 😆
Growth isn't always visible. Sometimes years of dormancy pass under the guise of death. Wait. Stay. Life can return.

Oooh, look at that spot gloss!! 😍 Excited to dig into this gem by @jesscreaden.bsky.social and @mythicroads.bsky.social ! 🌕✨
Jesus fucking Christ. I keep seeing authors on Threads asking readers how many sex scenes they should put in their books. “What would you prefer?” WTF? Your characters/plot should inform how much sex there is, not randos. Your book is not Burger King. Readers do not need to have it their way.
Somehow in the past hour, an hour has passed I thought we'd all agreed to stop this nonsense

This barn needs 65 more people with $50 to share to get over the finish line and we need to do it asaptually. Please chip in and share if you can. 🌻
TGIF! We’re doing a barnraiser! Venmo: @AndreaWaves and put 🌼 Goal: $4,000 Funds for 2 months of a mortgage for an Afghani family of 7. They fled to US as dad worked with US military. In July, DHS terminated all Afghans’ Temporary Protected Status. Now their visas have expired. We owe them.
If they do leave soon, that will mean one more month of countless people sheltering at home, one more month of rent and utilities and food and medical care that needs to be raised. That's millions of dollars of emergency funds just to keep people fed and housed. Do not look away.
With my work being art, productivity for me looks like I'm driven solely by whimsy. I mostly am. It's the only way I know how to be.
Here is what we are seeing: that every time we have a need, people are leaping to volunteer. To volunteer for admin work. To volunteer to help us get filament. To volunteer to help us pay postage so we can keep sending ABSOLUTELY FREE whistles to anyone who needs them to keep their community safe.
One huge reason I'm excited for Starfleet Academy is because it continues the 32nd century setting from the final few seasons of Star Trek: Discovery (which remains my favorite 21st century Trek, esp. seasons 3 and 4.) I love it when Star Trek keeps exploring further and further into the future.
Breaking NYT: The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter. The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status. That is a war crime called "perfidy."

a small real thing you can do right now. Bree’s squad just sent 200 of these to my stepmom for the anti-ICE ministry at our church. you can chip in for materials and supplies at the links below
Someone who is more organized than me put them on a linktree, with our GFM that covers shipping & supplies. (And when we have too much money in there, we send it to folks in cities who need stuff immediately, like we did today!) linktr.ee/3Dwhistles
