In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
Must be nice to be able to simplify it to that level. A team like Tigers can’t just watch Skubal walk for nothing at end season because they can’t compete with what others will offer. This isn’t a choice they have. It’s a result of a system built for large markets.

Makes me think of what Gary Stephens says about how the billionaires first took the money from the poor, and then the assets from the government (privatisation), and are now going to go for the middle classes- their wages, houses, pensions, public services and savings. #taxwealthnotwork

Yes lockdown was really tough for kids. Lots of those kids are teenagers now so maybe as a thank you our establishments could stop deliberately making even more things worse for them due to a weird systemic hatred of our own youth
If there is a second pandemic, the US is going to be screwed. There is no plan other than to let it burn through the population while these jokers sell a healthy diet (i.e. all beef) and exercise as the cure. And maybe some unrelated drug that makes you poop yourself raw in a Walmart.
