Not quite a failed academic. I study US military veterans, gender, and patriotism...not necessarily in that order. I also teach public speaking to community college students...and no, I'm not good at that either.

There is absolutely no viable path forward for this country that doesn’t hinge on extreme accountability for everyone involved in this administration. They’re going to whine about politicization and credulous media types will echo them, but the thing is, they’ve committed tons of obvious crimes!

I do not think an exec branch led by a man who thinks he is entitled to treat federal agents as an arm of his firm, refers to Somali Americans as “garbage” and has said racist things specifically about Omar is capable of neutrally applying the law to her, to put it mildly apnews.com/article/ilha...

something like a multiracial Yankee Peronism was what voters imagined what they were getting in '24 and what they actually got is George Bush's third term alongside the NatCon cultural revolution. turns out those tastes don't go well together!

It remains amazing to me that they had an obvious pathway entrench a reactionary regime for a generation and they blew it out of sheer incompetence, stupidity and hubris.

It seems like one side of the country’s political divide supports: - unprovoked wars - capitol punishment as entertainment - ICE/CBD agents killing immigrants as a mere cost of doing business - women being denied life-saving treatment when pregnancies are not viable … and views itself as “pro-life.”

The Republican Party is chock full of Nazis. The government has Nazis in senior administration positions. The Republican Party’s largest donor is a neo-Nazi. David Brooks might not want to admit it, but that’s why it’s long past time for him to shut up.

driftglass@driftglass.bsky.social · 3d ago

"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this

My theory about RFK Jr. is that this is individualism taken to its extreme: don't regulate food, don't mandate vaccines. If you get sick, you should've done your own research. Your health is your own responsibility, even when corps. are allowed to put you at risk. The privatization of public health.

Our long national nightmare of minimizing toxic chemicals in our food is finally over. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Democrats must recon with the idea that, guided by ideology and in exchange for massive profits from government contracts, many of these tech companies were *fine* assisting with the erosion of democracy and civil/human rights violations en mass.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social · 2d ago

One key point @nicholasgrossman.bsky.social makes here is that if Dems win the midterms (and win in 2028), deploying congressional power creatively to unwind Elon Musk's sway over the government (contracts, etc) will be essential to any reconstruction: www.ms.now/opinion/elon...

Ossoff is one of the very few people adequately channeling Evelyn Normielib these days the base doesn't want to hear entreaties to our better natures, they don't want to go high while the other side goes low, they want someone to come on the TV and go "these people are garbage" he's good at it

Bill McKibben@billmckibben.bsky.social · 4d ago

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

Know your target and what lies beyond Just a stunning admission of failure to adhere to the most basic professional standards. The lack of human decency is only matched by the lack of competency. And perhaps the willingness to spin any half truth to avoid the slightest hint of responsibility

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com · 4d ago

Breaking news: ICE didn’t know a 5-year-old boy was in the car when an officer fired on Oscar Belgal, a Dominican man in New York, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.

Ossoff: "I think Pete Hegseth is frankly a deeply unwell person who seems to relish this kind of brutality all the while he's running a department that is falling into chaos. The guy cannot run the military competently and is spending his time with this kind of obscene medieval spectacle."

80% of the country is pissed off about something and they're blaming GOP incumbents for it, the worst possible strategy for a Dem challenger is to tell the base "I don't share your values" while also telling swing voters "I'm so out of touch I think 'men in women's sports' is a real concern."

SC Dem Senate nominee Annie Andrews released an ad calling trans women "biological men." She embraces sports and surgery bans for youth. Her campaign even says she won't work to overturn the HRT/blocker trans youth ban. She once argued against capitulation. Subscribe to support our journalism.

One way you can tell christofash are ontologically evil is that they cannot stop talking about how much they love killing people and make everyone watch them do it and say how cool it is to do that, to just constantly be killing people

The real battle is spiritual and that's why we need to *touches ear piece* I have just received word from both station management and my attorney who are begging me to say what we need to is pray

25 years ago today, the U.S. launched its war in Afghanistan. Weeks earlier, Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against the 2001 Authorization of Military Force, warning it would be a blank check for forever wars. History has proven her lonely and courageous vote right.
