OPINION by Julia Hubbard: How do we avert the coming energy crunch? Imagine an orchestrated system of consumer solar devices taking stress off the grid. It’s already here, and it’s called a “virtual power plant.” thenevadaindependent.com/article/opin...

This is SUCH a cool report. Data nerds will love playing with the sliders and toggles. The takeaway is clear, though: solar + batteries are coming for *everything*. www.electrotech-revolution.com/p/harnessing...

"Antisemitism breaks it. Islamophobia breaks it. Burning churches breaks it. Transphobia breaks it. The targeting of any Canadian for their faith, their origin, or their identity breaks it." This was a very good speech by PM Mark Carney. Strongly recommend reading or watching the whole thing.
The Canadian Covenant – Prime Minister Carney highlights new measures to combat antisemitism and support Canada’s Jewish community
For three thousand years, Jewish tradition has taught us that a society should not be judged by its wealth or its power, but by how it treats its most vulnerable.

Spain has packed on enough renewables that the marginal electricity price is typically set by solar, and as a result, it's got some of the cheapest power in Europe janrosenow.substack.com/p/spain-just...
Spain just became one of Europe's cheapest power markets. Here is how.
How wind and solar quietly pushed gas off the margin, and the wholesale price followed.

Peter Thiel has been open about this for a long time. Trump is a way to break the republic, which can then be replaced by “free economic zones” with oligarchs as dictators and tech as a taskmaster for helpless humans without any rights. (1/2)
Definitely seems like they destroyed the country on purpose.
"They told us what they were going to do. They published it. They put it on a website. And when it happened, the press was surprised." Hoo boy, everyone should bookmark this @parkermolloy.com piece & make sure everyone involved in media reads it.

The growth curves are striking and I'm not sure people grasp the changes that are coming from widespread adoption of these technologies.

I cannot stress enough how much PIs appreciate hand written notes from graduating mentees. I cherish each one, & many are hanging in my office. Related, if you left a while ago & have good news, we love to get emails from former mentees! Let us celebrate with you! Today I was lucky to get both 💜
So cool! Looking forward to more on the air-water interface.
More controversy about air/water interfaces, which you might imagine wouldn’t stir up much passion:
You don't need to rebuild trust in science because trust in science is *quite high*. Supermajorities of Republican voters trust science! This is (partly) the right diagnosis, but for the wrong (nonexistent) problem. www.pewresearch.org/science/2024...
I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.
Our Department is accepting applications for Fall 2026. We're a young, dynamic Faculty with many different areas of research to choose from. Take a look! #chemsky

Nevada should be a solar powerhouse. Anything less is a missed opportunity.
We should be investing in cleaner, cheaper forms of energy like solar that help lower Nevadans' energy bills and create good-paying jobs. (1/2)
