Alarming, rapid spread of an insecticide-resistant malaria vector. This story, in any sane world, would prompt an immediate, coordinated response among governments, NGOs, researchers, and front-line workers. Instead, "We do not have any funding, and we have only one very old microscope."

An Invasive Mosquito Is Spreading With Alarming Speed, Threatening Africa’s Cities (Gift Article)

The malaria-carrying mosquito is resistant to all insecticides. Scientists are scrambling to find ways to blunt the risk.

If you told me in 1986 "the company that put out Archon II and Pinball Construction Set will be owned by Saudi Arabia and play a major role in President Donald Trump's corruption" I would have thought you were absolutely insane. [and yes those were the last EA games I owned]

Aura/Moom@moomanibe.bsky.social · yesterday

"saudi arabia owns EA" is going to be the headline you see basically everywhere for this one but "jared kushner is about to use EA as a vehicle for trump administration bribes" is equally relevant imo

I haven't had anything like this (though even before it would add odd things that had my name on them), but one frustrating thing is that while you can manually add an article, you can't add a url for it. The site a bunch of my papers are published at doesn't get indexed so the link doesn't show up.

Anyone else's Google Scholar gone entirely bonkers? It's started adding random acknowledgements and copyright statements ("Copyright© 2021 by the author (s). Published here under license by the...") as my research articles. And deleted my most cited article. Maybe not great to rely on Google here.

now one thing that confuses me... you say the victim died suddenly yesterday but there's a bunch of fourth-instar calliphorid maggots in their clothes, and if there's one thing i know it's that kids may grow up fast but they don't grow up THAT fast

I figured it out! Wilson gives the exact same energy as reviewer #2 who rips into your paper in a cruel way but also makes you go "are you sure you even read this?" every sentence. like calling it "family friendly" or complaining that the movie doesn't draw attention to the atrocities of Odysseus.

I think a lot of ex-academics (myself included) are sort of triggered by this review because yes, while acerbic criticism can be entertaining, she is not really joking at all and we all recognize exactly that type of behavior and have ptsd from all it implies.

For Americans with Disabilities Act anniversary, sharing this interview I did with ADA's primary author Tony Coelho last year at @motherjones.com. He shared the importance of bipartisanship in getting it across the line. Something that seems impossible now. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

The ADA is turning 35—and it's in Trump's crosshairs

Tony Coelho, the Americans With Disabilities Act's main author, sees a new wave of threats looming for disability rights.

The FDA used to have a warning on its website against bogus autism “remedies,” eg, the dangerous—sometimes deadly—chelation pushed by RFK Jr & his antivaxx ally David Geier RFK Jr ordered the warnings to be removed 😢 Anyone who tells me I must “find common cause” with MAHA & its leader can STFU

I remember when RFK jrs fans were into chelation. I've got a 20 something autistic kid, and it was part of his antivax nonsense.
