The absence of persistent Spanish-language machines to rival the CBC might be the strongest indictment I can make of the "Democratic consultant class"
Yeah, someone I follow who is fluent in Spanish and has relatives in Florida said the campaigning on Spanish language media was like nothing he's ever seen before. How on earth did Dem officials not do anything near that?
I have my first irl warhammer tournament tomorrow. I made a checklist for each game so I don’t forget to do anything.
Really enjoyed @bretdevereaux.bsky.social's new post about hoi4. It's kinda obvious to anyone who plays the game that it's rigged in Germany's favor, but I didn't realize just how pro-fash the basic economic system is until he pointed it out here acoup.blog/2026/10/23/t...

President Harris would probably not be at war with Iran. She certainly wouldn't have regime-changed Venezuela. Under President Harris, the USA wouldn't send anyone to CECOT. Under President Harris, Alex Pretti and Renee Good would not have been shot by DHS thugs.
The funny thing about people trying to “subvert” a genre they don’t like very much, is that with murder mysteries they often end up unintentionally copying something Agatha Christie already did better.
love when someone says they're writing a genre because they don't like the genre i love subversion in a genre, but i want a reason
my "zero 'coercion' required" t shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by the shirt
Democrats should really feature these creeps their extensive ties to this administration.
Having spent a lot of time this last week going on about the major Left anti-imperial blind spot - Russian imperialism - let's balance the scales with some Liberal self-reflection. The EU & Anglophone wealthy countries quickly sanctioned Russia but have been foot dragging about Israel for decades
Consistently sanctioning occupied territory is necessary for enforcing international law
In the latest of many diplomatic splits between Western Europe and the United States, the Labor-led government of the United Kingdom announced sanctions on the goods and (more importantly) services pr...

I think that democratic politicians should not forget that the teamsters are going all out to defend swing seat Republican ghouls like Mike Lawler
There are a lot of good arguments about what the Dems should do if they get power, but job one needs to be a drastic reduction in the powers of the Presidency (and probably SECDEF too). If you don’t do that, the game is up. The next person to abuse that power will be better at it.
There was a friend on the sidewalk. I was worried she was hurt but she flew away after a bit so hopefully she’s fine.
Heck yeah, the new Tomb Kings arcane journal released and it’s everything I wished Royal host was. Chariots are good now + you can still make use of foot tomb guard
New rule: if you wanna whine about free software being built with the help of Claude, you have to submit at least one (1) useful PR to their project on Git Otherwise, you're literally just demanding people work way harder for free — you're an entitled asshole
This slab of OSB made on a CNC machine to patch the rotting flood damage hole in my floor has none of the elegance of the old architectural masters that built this house, may as well just leave it inundated
I’m sorry are we having a meltdown that the emergency computer code is written by a machine instead of a master human artisan and the code is therefore not properly ensouled as befits such artful craftwork
Not an ai apocalypse doomer or whatever, but entering a world where the normal operation of cybersecurity is vast swarms of hacker bots battling vast swarms of defender bots 24/7 at a scale beyond human comprehension doesn't seem like a *great* path forward.
Re-professionalizing and de-politicizing DoD will be crucial. And doable, as this thread with specifics shows. Add Thiel-Palantir to Musk-SpaceX and Luckey-Anduril review. Courts martial for boat bombings. Problem is, it’ll take political will, and there’s at least two more years of damage to go.
To-do list for SD Mayor Pete and DSD Uncle Frank (and the transition team): - at 1201 rip down the stupid fucking sign, regardless of whether Congress has officially changed the name (not looking good for the 27 NDAA lol) - at 1202 issue orders to rename all the confederate bases back*
Far too much of this going on in the neighbourhood chats at election time

Kinda fascinated by the "extant 0 days are good and we should have more" crowd
The fact that EA has a deserved reputation as a studio killer and that they after almost a decade of failure from BioWare continued to let them do what they do with near unlimited funding it’s probably shows that BioWare‘s biggest believer was ironically EA itself
It's a myth in much the same way that "Versailles created Hitler" is a myth. The idea being that there was something "the West" could have done differently that would have averted catastrophe. It's seductive for think tankers because it lets them spin off wild hypotheticals of what might have been.
The idea that the US deliberately humiliated Russia in the 1990s is a bizarre myth. We were overtly solicitous and supportive of them and their hurt feelings. We just didn’t accept their claim that the nations or Eastern Europe could never seek their own destiny.

The US and the West welcomed Russia into the community of nations after the Cold War. Investment poured in. The G7 turned into G8. The idea that Poland, Estonia, etc. forming their own foreign relations was so unfair to Moscow that Russia is entitled to murder Ukrainians 20 years later is insane.
