One day after the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Association of Evangelicals came out against the Pentagon’s plan to livestream an execution, Pope Leo has published a tweet reiterating the Catholic Church’s opposition to the death penalty.

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption.

NEW from me: The National Association of Evangelicals (along with several other religious groups) are now joining the USCCB in condemning Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth’s plans to publicly execute Nidal Malik Hasan, also saying doing so promotes a “culture of death.” religionnews.com/2026/10/09/h...

Susan Collins sent these lawless secret police goons and the rogue Trump paramilitary they work for $70,000,000,000 in JUNE -- after they'd killed two Americans with impunity. She says her vote was for body cameras but that's an obscene lie. Cameras were 0.03% of the $70B appropriation. #MEpolitics

10/10 Court filings confirm ICE agents did add Mainers to “nice little database” of “domestic terrorists” #maine #MEpolitics

I am in Cap Haitien interviewing people deported from the United States. I have been doing this kind of work for almost a decade and it literally does not get more dire than this. People have lost everything they built in the U.S. and are terrified and have no place to go or way to live.

That half of Medicare plans are now run by private insurance- with some people offered benefits and others refused them because of their location - is a betrayal of promise by Medicare of equal care for everyone Medicare Advantage was always a scam. End it. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/09/b...

Private Medicare Plans Are Raising Costs And Forcing Millions To Find New Insurance (Gift Article)

As enrollment for Medicare Advantage begins this month, older Americans are confronting fewer options because insurers are discontinuing coverage in many areas.

The most common type of false allegation of sexual violence is DARVO complaints made by perpetrators against their very real victims. DARVO stands for Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. It’s a way perpetrators avoid accountability by accusing their victims of wrongdoing.

The general sense from law enforcement is that victims are “asking for it” by expecting systems to take concerns about violence seriously. A kind of, “If you want us to believe you, then we have to believe your abuser who said you were dangerous.”

"It’s unclear how many children fall into this category, because ORR doesn’t systematically track them" <-- the administration is hiding data and eroding research infrastructure because, without data and research, it's easier to deny the damage they've done

Children living safely with families are being picked up by ICE and referred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which places them in shelters or foster care. These shelters were designed for new arrivals, not settled kids—and the children are struggling badly.

Susan Collins told Mainers she was so powerful cause she was Senate Approps Chair. Then, she voted for Vought knowing he'd take her power away - and he did She's been undermined!!! But, I agree with @troyjackson207.bsky.social, "Expressing concern isn't enough. Mainers see through the bullshit"

Trump shouts out Russ Vought and then says, ominously, "we have some big surprises coming up in a few weeks, right Russ? He's gonna be one of the important people in the history of our country."

I'm just gonna bookmark this for future reference when Dem pundits complain about how the party has trouble communicating its message to voters. The reason you keep running into trouble with your branding isn't campus radicals. The reason is that your opponents purchased all the media outlets.

Another campaign finance report from the Yes on 3 (top-two primary) campaign, and again, it's almost all from private equity and the investor class. $1.3M in new money, and 80+% of it coming from just 8 donors--7 private equity executives and investment firm managers plus 1 investment firm itself

Hey, I’m just asking questions. Ignorant questions, bigoted questions, questions that have been repeatedly answered for many years. Sorry, but I’m not listening to answers right now; I’m far too busy asking questions. It’s called being intellectually curious.

Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination. She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth. Because he’s a goddamned coward.

I don’t know how Facebook tweaked its algorithm in the last couple weeks but suddenly I am getting content from far-right influencer types, which has never happened before. This content is less relevant to me than the cattle castration tool ads I’ve gotten from time to time.
