This Could Change The Way Victims Get Justice

David Farrier's Webworm looks at Alison Mau and Zoë Lawton's Tika: a new way to report sexual harm in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Please please please share this post. There is some bizarre magic spell on the words "pay equity" that makes people's eyes glaze over but there's nothing boring about working women being robbed of BILLIONS of dollars by the chaos coalition

Government's treatment of women in Aotearoa goes to the United Nations

One year after legislation killed existing pay equity claims and basically ended the opportunity to bring new claims, the government is being taken to the United Nations. It's a huge deal. The team ...

A year ago, ministers met to consider tightening NZ’s pay equity law. Their decisions went further than officials had advised, hardening the policy to the point some groups were cut out from ever making a claim. Why? And on what evidence? They won’t show us. www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

How a crucial 45-minute meeting between ministers took pay equity claims away from tens of thousands of women

In a crucial 45 minute meeting, ministers decided to go beyond official proposals, making it even harder for 180,000 workers to ask for pay equity.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

Yet again, in almost any other NZ government a minister telling NZers to *eat less food* to save money would have them hounded by media and pushed out of politics. Never forget the immensely important protective role that NZ media have played in protecting these fascists from public outrage.

Shops don’t close themselves. It’s not 61 shops, it’s people closing livelihoods, it’s staff losing their jobs, it’s creditors not being paid, it’s parents with no income facing the expense of the start of the school year and a heartless systemically unhelpful WINZ. #nzpol

61 shops announce closures in 10 days: Will liquidation numbers get worse before they improve?

There are warnings the number of businesses closing could get worse before it gets better.

Party that was implacably opposed to wasting three quarters of a billion on a bridge that might have got people moving in a new way in Auckland has now wasted three quarters of a billion that leaves us with absolutely nothing at all. NOTHING.

NCWNZ rightly calls out this govt's War on Women & in 1951 Labour MP Mabel Howard called the National govt's response to the waterfront stoppage a War on Women, too. It's endless, and so is resistance - women organised, fought back. #WarOnWomen heritageetal.blogspot.com/2018/10/the-...

The women were marvellous

In 1951, after watersiders had refused overtime work in protest at a low wage offer, the government announced a state of emergency.

Remember during Covid when all those “unskilled” jobs were actually the ones deemed essential. While many with “important” jobs sat around baking bread. Many of those essential roles are the ones being impacted by pay equity shafting. Praised then, scoffed at now. Shame on this Government.

This from Verity Johnson hits what I think is the most important point in this whole thing (I said it in a much more sweary way last night) - women had followed process and were seeking redress through the 'proper' channels. All that was ignored and destroyed. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/350...

Kate Sheppard would be rolling in her grave after this week’s events, writes Verity Johnson

OPINION: I can’t work out which part of this week’s pay equality law change was the most horrifying.
