It’s normal (and correct) to refuse to sign your likeness or performance over to AI. Even if there’s no indication that AI will specifically be used? Even if legally you’d be protected according to all sources? Saying no and standing by that is right.

Nicolas Cage says he’s “probably not” working with Amazon again after refusing to sign AI waiver for “Spider-Noir”: ‘I am not an AI-friendly actor’

If it were conscious it would be a real dumbass who always jumps in and interrupts you without understanding what you're talking about and constantly lies and does things wrong and pretends to take responsibility while lying about what it did wrong so what's the case for not being mean to it again?

Adult life is like "Having friends and hobbies prevents you from getting lonely, experiencing health problems, and developing dementia," and then adult life does absolutely everything it can to prevent you from having friends and hobbies.

I was once told by a cop, at a training triggered by a sharp increase in drugging and SA at large events in the 2010s, that their job was to disprove allegations, that 99% of victims were liars, and they were there to lock up people who made false allegations. Which was basically everyone.

You’re sexually assaulted. You report. And the police make you the suspect. Police unleash a slew of interrogation techniques meant for criminal suspects on vulnerable people.

"Hurt people hurt people" is an explanation for harm, not an excuse for harm as we often use it as. Even if you are the victim of abuse, that does not excuse you doing abuse in return. Shit like that is what ideologies like Zionism are built on. We only break abuse cycles through accountability.

honestly the thing that I find most galling about all this is the massive overlap between people trying to apply human rights models to computer programs and those arguing that some categories of humans -whether by race, category, or caste- don't have them.

Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.

That's kind of where I'm at. I'm not concerned with the ethics of being mean to AI, because it's not alive. But I am concerned with how people don't realize they themselves are being conditioned when they harass or abuse something anthropromorphic which they know can't fight back.

When the whole "clanker" thing was going around my profound thought was that it said a lot more about the people actively choosing to use a word they construed as a slur, even against a system that could not respond to it emotionally, than of the system itself.

We are conceding the very possibility of democratic governance to allow a corporation to determine the moral rights of a machine. surely moral concern for actual humans and how we relate is better preserved democratically than it is by a corporation.
