Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.

Newbie writers think there's "one weird trick" to becoming a successful writer, which we refuse to tell them. Fact is, most of us became successful (whatever that means) through 90% luck, 9% stubbornness, 1% inability to do anything else. We can't tell you how we got here because we don't know!

My brother is a high school math teacher and has spent the summer creating new and exciting problems for his students to solve, and, for a few of them, he also made accompanying art. I wanted to share one with everyone, so we can all appreciate how much my brother is living his best life:

Text reads: Following the AI apocalypse of 2038, Mr. Murphy relocated his teaching job to a secret doomsday property near the Alaska range foothills. The lithium-powered killer robots limp around the permafrost like drunk Roombas while Mr. Murphy stays toasty warm in his bunker, building math curriculum for a rising generation of freedom fighters.

The underground propane tank is a cylinder with a radius of 2.3ft and a length of 8ft and two hemispherical end caps. When burned, propane releases 91,500 BTU per gallon. Mr. Murphy estimates he will need about 520,000 BTU per day to heat the home during the winter. How many days can the tank last before refueling? (MATH FOLLOWS)

Was determined not to work over the weekend but then my sassafrassing brain came up with a really good sassafrassing idea for a sassafrassing plot twist and I need to get it written up before it sassafrassing evaporates.

Zach London: you know that sinking feeling that you get when you click on a youtube video that looks cool but then you realize it's AI slop made by an unfeeling machine? London: what if you could also get that feeling in a movie theater? London: gentlemen i give you gossip goblin

Microsoft is planning to build three massive AI data centres in Leeds. It’ll drain thousands of litres of water from the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop the council's sign-off, but we need more voices. Add your name: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/pr...

Stop the Microsoft AI megasite in Leeds!

Microsoft wants to build three huge AI data centres at Skelton Grange. It would drain the River Aire and become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop it - add your name to the petition.
