this is so sad. not the OP, the person who told him to stop sharing his books. if Tom hadn't shared HIS WRITING, or other ppl's funny reviews, i wouldn't've found him. i have one of his in my rucksack, ready to take on a plane & read tomorrow BECAUSE HE SHARES HIS BOOKS. make&share your art, ffs!

A Bluesky user has written to me to ask me to stop mentioning my books on here. I wonder... Should I continue trying my best to make a living in a tough world via the writing I've spent decades putting my heart & soul into? Or should I obey them? Nah. I'm going to continue mentioning my books.

this also reminds me of my dad, who works in A&E, telling me about the sheer number of times he's had to treat people for carbon monoxide poisoning on days it was meant to be sunny but it ended up raining instead (I'll let you guess what happens in those cases!)

Those who think the fire alert was overkill seriously underestimate the BBQ-related stupidity of some people. A few years ago, part of a Cambridge college almost burned down because some students decided to light a disposable BBQ on the lead roof on one of the buildings. 🙄

We just had to call the fire service because someone has deliberately started a fire in the woods opposite our house. I could cry. I can’t fathom how our species feels so insulated from responsibility in the micro and macro

FFS, You don’t even have to look *outside Cambridge* for examples of white professors who have behaved far, far worse and not only kept their jobs, but have been protected and celebrated by both their institution and the media.

It’s Thursday 13th August 8:35am BST, and the election is currently ongoing. Polls have not closed. I’ve screenshotted this from the Bluesky ‘Trending’ news page because I’m sure it’s going to be removed, but it’s extremely problematic that it occurred at all. How has this been done and who did it?

Oxford’s newest cafe is the Good Habit on St Giles, opening on 1 September. The name is a pun on the monastic Catholic hall of Blackfriars, who own the site: it was a bank until 2018. The cafe is now recruiting staff (hello@thegoodhabitbakery.com).
