I have bought solar eclipse glasses for next week ( >90% partial eclipse on Wednesday while we're staying near Dorking) - now have sudden urge to take Day of the Triffids on holiday with us!

Currently completely baffled that National Rail wants to sell us four singles each to do a return journey from Cambridge South to Dorking Deepdene (via Gatwick Airport). Why is this not available as a return? I can live with having to get a separate ticket to double back to/from Shelford but argh.

Well done Access Canberra. Someone has tried to sign up to manage their driving licence with my email, but it needs the address to be verified. Fine, I ignore the first email. Then they send a second email, to remind me to verify. It has an unsubscribe link. Which needs my driving licence info.

imagine that you’re a fire inspector. someone is making direct eye contact with you, and telling you with their whole chest that they have intentionally built their home out of match sticks because they’re lighter than other materials and allow them to build fast, without help.

Packing for a family week away for my mum's 70th. Just the important stuff so far: stomp rocket, murder mystery puzzle book, colouring book, new pack of coloured pencils, a cake firework and solar eclipse glasses for 14 people.

THREAD/ORIGINAL ART GIVEAWAY This hare linoprint is by my mum, Jo. I'll be sending an original of this to one randomly chosen person who reposts this link to my recently updated website & pops a reply below. www.tom-cox.com The offer is open worldwide. I also have some more art to give away...

A meadow hare, filled with flowers, cut from lino by my mum, Jo.

Resorted to muting notifications on a Facebook post by @nwhyte.bsky.social after it started to turn into a bit of a pile on. It was not the right place to practice my French translation skills, and wonder about tone on the internet, but me saying anything else would only sound defensive now.

I was driving along Chester Road, Stretford the other day, when I saw a child cycling safely along the new cycle lanes. Alone, no adult with them. And I rejoiced, because this is precisely what the new lanes are FOR. 🙌 (Adults can use them too! 🤣)

I know I have quite a small reach on here but is there anyone on here who is a Doctor Who fan based in the South West? I have a lot of old stuff from my childhood and I’m looking to downsize, would like to pass as much of it onto a loving home if possible

Just realised that at least one of my *great* grandparents was in fact too young to have had an occupation other than "school" in 1926.

Hey Philadelphia!! Do you want this mural on your building?? Here’s what we’re looking for: You must own the building. Must be in Philly The flatter the surface the better! The more people that will see it the better. We want to install in September Email me if that's you SkypeAScientist@gmail.com

words say "Do you want this mural on your building?" with a bunch of lightning bugs and native plants on a mural that is labeled as being 10 by 10 ft

No rain here, but it came within a field or two. Close enough that we could hear the rain laughing, hear the rain handing out crisp new five pound notes, hear the rain praising home decoration choices of the houses it fell upon.

A heavy band of rain on the wrong side of town. A parched field of watches as it passes.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

Bah, bought a case and screen protectors with new phone - they arrived 2 days later. Screen protector has a circle in it where the fingerprint scanner is. Only that bit doesn't seem to stick as well as the rest so there's now a splodge in the middle of the screen and it can't read my fingerprints.

Disappointed to find there doesn't seem to be a current version of the Blipfoto app on the Google Play store, so when my apps copied over from the backup of my old phone it refused to install. (And Blendoku, a cute colour matching puzzle game). Currently resorting to uploading daily photos via web.

It's nearly 7pm and it doesn't feel like it could possibly be this late because it is still so hot. Our patio area is still 33 degrees for goodness sake. (27 indoors felt pleasantly cool when I got home but now just feels hot and sticky too).

Legal Bluesky, advice? A friend was the victim of a transphobic attack today (physical and verbal), including vile slurs. The police demanded they disclose whether they are trans in order to progress the case. Surely this is wrong - it's a hate crime even if they were only perceived as trans?
