These days, it’s rare for me to read about or hear something in the “big world” that delights me in a genuine way. But today I learned that Avery Trufelman (Articles of Interest) and Derek Guy aka “The Menswear Guy” (@dieworkwear.bsky.social) are collaborating on a new series and I’m just… 🥳🎉🙌🏾🎊🍾

Michael Burry of 'The Big Short' fame deregisters hedge fund, teasing 'much better things' ahead
Michael Burry, the famed "The Big Short" investor seems to have shut his doors to outside money after writing the "only winning move is not to play."

Meanwhile, CEOs make 280 times the typical worker today. The system is rigged.
🔥 @agiftfromtodd.bsky.social : "Y’all get it now?? Do you understand what’s possible? I don't wanna hear no more 'my vote doesn't matter. Nothing ever changes.' Look what happens when you participate. We win everything. There are more of us… for the rest of your damn life, you gotta vote.”
Tonight should be a good reminder to Senate Democrats they better not cave.
If you see any business owners belittling SNAP recipients for accepting government money to get through tough times, maybe look them up on @propublica.org's PPP Loan Tracker to see if they got any of the $793B in bailout money (96% of which was forgiven) projects.propublica.org/coronavirus/...

People should use their SNAP benefits for whatever they think they need. Both because any effort you make to micromanage purchases is inefficient and cumbersome and because people who need help aren’t obligated to perform for or satisfy others in order to eat.
These stock prices are indicators of extraction success, not societal well-being, not good business practices. In 2025, causing profound human suffering is profit-maximizing behavior.
Forty million people are poised to lose food access. Nearly three quarters of a million federal workers are furloughed. Corporations are laying off tens of thousands at a time. We face the worst unemployment crisis since the pandemic. Farmers are broke. Today the stock market reached a record high.
The government of Jamaica has set up a portal for contributing to official relief efforts. I will update this thread if anything analogous opens up for Haiti, Cuba, or the DR supportjamaica.gov.jm

I keep thinking about how SNAP subsidizes American farmers and feeds American children and their families and cuts to SNAP will fuck farmers and starve children and their families and that's a pretty batshit thing to actively want to do
“Just go to a food bank, a church or a charity” For every meal the food bank provides, the SNAP program provides 9. Even if donations are rapidly scaled up, they won’t be able to meet the needs of 42 million Americans who are about to go hungry. It’s not sustainable.
Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.
I wanted a flying car, but best they can do is surveillance equipment that cleans floors as an added feature…🤷🏽♀️

STOP REPORTING WHAT THE REGIME SAYS AND START REPORTING WHAT IS
I constantly draw strength from the fact that my parents grew up when it was worse than this. When white people were lynching people in the streets and bombing Black churches and integrated schools. And they still did not live in fear. My parents thrived, loved, and lived. And I can too.

MacCALLUM: Andrew Cuomo tomorrow night in that debate, he's gonna say 'I'm gonna bring 5,000 more police officers to the street.' Will you match that? MAMDANI: I don't look to Andrew Cuomo for leadership
