What a strange, sad article this is. ‘Etiquette experts’ advising the best way to communicate with others is through passive aggression, and people needing guidance on how to navigate being drooled on my strangers. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Think our basic rights are safe? In the age of oligarchs and corporate lobbying, think again | George Monbiot
The global assault on our freedoms is coming ever closer to home. Just look at the sinister prosecution of UK lawyer Rajiv Menon, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

It's a point I've been trying to make for a long time: there is no good way to meet even 10% of current demand for animal products. They trash the living world, whichever way you do it. If you want to reduce your impact, switch to a plant-based diet. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This is something of a revolution in paradiplomacy! Traditionally and obviously NYC has been zealously symbolically pro Israel (even if tacitly willing to facilitate the UN and work with eg Palestinian delegations). This is reminiscent of boycotts against South Africa…a big blow to Netanyahu
Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal.
Did the BBC just say Pharrell was ASAP Rocky? 😭 #ESPARG
trump has also debanked Italian citizen Francesca Alabanese for her work at the UN to condemn Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. she is on an international blacklist created for terrorists and it is also illegal for anyone to bank for her — she must live entirely economically isolated and on cash
The complicated life of Francesca Albanese: A rising figure in Italy but barred from every bank by Trump’s sanctions
The UN special rapporteur for the Palestinian territories has become a leading voice in her country, but she is on a US blacklist as if she were a terrorist and can only use cash

An unearthly gorgeous performance here. I went to the funeral of a Thai composer in Bangkok last week. 100 of the composer’s students (!) played the Thai khim along with a recording of their teacher playing over the PA. The overtones were nuts. Video actually caught the sound pretty good.
As I stated in a previous post: Domestic abuse incidents rise around major football tournaments, increasing by 38% when England lose. My heart goes out to all those that were waiting for the final whistle and are now scared, waiting for the front door to open.
Resources and help for anyone, and it will be mostly women, affected by the increased risk of domestic abuse associated with football www.nhs.uk/live-well/ge...

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures. Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025." In ONE year. The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.
NEW BLOG FOR YOU Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too. A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI: ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...

Sort of spurred by this: I still think that part of the whole Post Pandemic Social Settlement should have been a huge (inter)national effort to properly ventilate our spaces and that should have included ACs and heat pumps for places in Europe, and it's just a shame we generally didn't do this.

Refugee Week is a vital reminder of the resilience and strength it takes to seek safety and rebuild a life. Solidarity cannot begin and end with a single week. We must continue to defend the rights of refugees, including Black, minoritised and migrant women fleeing abuse, every day of the year.
