Okay, I am going to tell a little story. It's one I have saved for the last couple years, almost nobody knows about it. But it lives in my heart. I don't know how others will feel about it, maybe something, maybe nothing. It's about the Uncanny X-Men. 1/

In 4th grade my class debated Puerto Rican statehood and the pro side was "my cousin is Puerto Rican" and the anti side was "How would you even arrange 51 stars on the flag" and I want to stress that this is the level at which the American public as a whole generally engages with issues.

This article does a great job laying out why exactly the attacks on the Kennedy Center hurt so much. It's one of the great symbols of our nation and its values; one of the photos shows the building site when it was being built and there's a sign which says "The Center will belong to every American."

production of The Muppet Show should not be dependent on petty vulgarities like “ratings” or “revenue.” it should be preserved as a vital function of american culture. it should have a taxpayer-funded budget rivaling the CIA

just noted this in the group chat but it’s wild to compare this halftime show to Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl, which felt so intentional and well-choreographed, while this (at the world’s largest sporting event!) is a bizarre mishmash of disconnected artists and set pieces

In my first story with Kelley French for @notus.com, I spoke to the woman pictured in the Metro photo on July 4. She didn't know she went viral. Her family wants people to know their difficult reality. Please take some time with our story today www.notus.org/metro/viral-...
