Aside from anything else, I just don’t believe that humanoid robots would be the most efficient shape for the different tasks. So unless the task is ‘impressing humans with how sci fi it is’, or maybe customer facing service, I struggle to believe we will have humanoid robots.

If you want to change that and have a system more like Germany ... all you've got to do is have a protected labour market like Germany. Vocational skills are more valuable in Germany because they get you access to a sector with more protections than in the UK.

If it were me, I would have the next series start with two bodies arriving at a hospital, because: a) loads of NHS jobs are good for the companion’s backstory b) I think it would be a very cool way to reintroduce Doctor and Master c) prevents some damn fool “resolving” Billie later

Burnham's had a good first week by announcing a few cheap policies that people should like. That's genuinely good for getting the vibes to a better place, but there's a serious reckoning to come on tax and spend and there's no avoiding it.

hi i’ve stayed on a *low* secure psych ward and it was like a prison. didn’t go outside for 11 months, couldn’t see my sisters for same amount of time bc no children on ward, subjected to random frisks of my room/body, staff could listen in on visits with parents. broadmoor isn’t the “easy” option

It is not nothing that AI is quickly solving a lot of tractable but vast search space maths problems. It should tell you how useful it is when given a well defined thing to interrogate. That they are solved with simple prompts isn’t the point, it’s that the actual problem itself is well specified.

And yeah, immigration is complicated - with winners and losers and increased supply and increased demand - by it is fascinating to see people make such noise about tiny sums on ie bus fares when they never think to ask about the massive economic effects of one of our main policy areas.

It's funny how no-one ever asks where the money is coming from when you announce a cut in immigration.

Fundamentally, this poll does not show what Patriotic Millionaires say it shows. It just shows that people at all levels of wealth think people wealthier than them should pay more tax. Who knew?
