CITY QUESTION 2 (St. Paul- 2028) SHOULD THE CITY FORM A TASK FORCE TO EXPLORE THE OPPORTUNITIES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ANNEXING AND/ OR CONSOLIDATING WITH NEIGHBORING CITIES?
I saw someone refer to homeschooling as “trickle down stupidity.” Immediate addition to my lexicon.
Anything fun happening in Saint Paul this weekend?
Anything fun happening in Minneapolis this weekend?
We always talk about why there is a Maplewood, never should there be a Maplewood. Many people are saying this.
Ope, just gonna sneak past ya there and build a low density wall around the capitol city that is dominated by one company that was chasing some tax savings. Annex Maplewood! #twincities #saintpaul #minnesota #ramseycounty #3M
In 2023 (the dawn of AI?), the Minnesota State Fair went the other direction and commissioned a crop-art piece by Liz Schreiber as that year’s commemorative art. Entirely created by hand, from real seeds, the work was so impressive the Fair stopped commissioning commemorative art.
The Ohio State Fair had a poster contest. The winner was awarded $1000. I present to you, the winner:
Word to the wise. Any Saint Paul folks going to see @chuckprophet.bsky.social at Parkway Theater tonight - you should wear your Saint Paul Liberation Front shirt or the Saints Workshirt. You’ll know why at the show. (They did a great show lastnight here in Madison, WI at the Atwood Music Hall!)
The Endangered Species Act seems to restrict infill development in these dense areas as much as it restricts greenfield development in exurban sprawl. The less we build in Maplewood, the faster pristine habitat we destroy in the exurbs as unsustainable cities sprawl.
The easiest possible layup for a President at war with another country would be to explain that they are attacking us. Trump won't do that because he views Minnesota as a bigger enemy than Iran.
Trump: "We heard in Minnesota there was a cyberattack and they blame it on Iran. I don't think so. I blame it on Minnesota because they're grossly incompetent. Iran's got bigger problems than worrying about Minnesota."
Analogous to the idea that land doesn't vote is yards don't house many people ... what can look like a metropolitan area of detached houses is a bit different. Met Council in the Twin Cities puts together data on housing stock so you can graph dwelling composition for cities. Here's the "urban core"
SAINT PAUL- Can't you just be normal for 5 seconds and not act like Minneapolis?!? It really hurts the annexation sales pitch when these shenanigans occur- I expect this from 3M Execs and some Maplewood city hall candidates, but not from you...
Dumbest scandal I’ve seen in a long time! www.startribune.com/st-paul-inve...
Listen, I'm only interested in @maplehoodunited.bsky.social opinion on this. Which burb gets to annex Saint Paul?
For those of you wondering - If the Mayor of Saint Paul were ever to be removed from office, the entire city will be incorporated into Falcon Heights in what is known as the Basakwards Principle. We have Norm Coleman to thank for this.

St. Paul Mayor Her investigated for sexual harassment allegations involving police chief
The city hired an outside law firm for the probe after Chief Axel Henry filed a formal complaint alleging inappropriate conduct toward city employees.

Minnesota needs fewer local governments- Otter Tail County alone has 83 local governments including 22 school districts and 22 cities for 60,000 people! A tremendous amount of local government aid is given to prop these up- many offer redundant coverage and services.

Fractionalized government has real costs
I overheard a seasoned MetroTransit officer bringing a new recruit up to speed, and he explained that for an incident at Westgate station, they have to deal with Hennepin or Ramsey County depending whether they exit off the west end or east end of the station.
Unironically -- is this a Jones Act problem? Tonnage shipped by boat or ship in Minnesota has consistently declined in recent years; transporting people and goods by boat or ship seems to be more common in Europe and China
Minnesota does a very bad job of converting its abundant waterways into ferry transport ⛴️
Do other cities have a least interesting historic building or structure? Here's Saint Paul's Colorado Street Bridge.
There's a Minneapolis Water Taxi, but not a Saint Paul Water Taxi- what gives?

Just call it Concord since it's the same road...? Kaposia ought to be a more prominent name on that side of town. By extension, can we rename West or South Saint Paul to Kaposia?

Three community input sessions will be held this month to choose a new name.

Authorities say a 32-year-old Brianna Keller arrived 20 minutes before the meeting and calmly slipped a 47-page municipal dissolution plan into the council packets. The document reportedly included maps, fiscal projections, and a post-it note reading, "Worth discussing?"
