An indie in London, I build multiplayer games that are destined to die out
check on your friend that's a little too intense about the amazing digital circus
AO3 Status@status.archiveofourown.org · yesterday[update] Identified: We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. If that does happen, there may be times when the site has ...
this is not even the first job where I've had coworkers ask "how did you learn to type so fast?" okay guys well there's this thing called a "forum," and sometimes people in it are *wrong*, so
Nidhogg online update! 8 player lobbies, voice chat, double elimination online tournaments and when the clock strikes 12.... Pumpkin mode begins! This weekend only! store.steampowered.com/news/app/944...
It turns out you can also lose someone at hello.
gang there are in-development titles you would call "indie games" that are gonna cost 5 million dollars to finish
Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social · 2d agoI saw a story on a major gaming website speculating that Mass Effect 5 would have cost $5 million for EA to finish. If that was the case, BioWare would not have been closed! The gaming industry is where it is right now because big games cost hundreds of millions of dollars to finish.
I have no idea what possessed me to make this, but I'm sharing it here for you all anyway.
The "enemy spotted the player and changed behaviour" event is real, it exists in the game world. The audio bark emitted by this event is a UI contrivance -- it's necessary to signal something to the player, but if the game itself doesn't respond/react to it, it's in some sense not real.**
Looking for game devs who have been directly inspired by anything BioWare for my next video. I suspect the public likely doesn’t quite realize the extent of their influence on the industry, so I’d really like to highlight that. If you are one such game devs, pls reply to this post!
what are the worst dev tools you've ever worked with and can you share pictures with me
it is unusual for me to ask for help on the internet. but this is very important. i'm going to need you to send me videos of very cool boss explosions so i can make one.
I'm a dad making a dice roguelike. Here's a walkthrough of an early build. Slumber Realm is out November 4 on Steam. store.steampowered.com/app/3325390/... #SlumberRealm #indiegame #gamedev
(This isn’t to say using libraries or copy+pasting specific code makes you a lesser programmer, I just needed to pain a fuller picture of the exact kind of sicko I am)
The level of activity on social media is always inversely proportional to how much time you have to kill
tried Dia a bit this afternoon, but fundamentally i don't like it because all the things it has that Arc doesn't are things i don't want. and all the things it does differently to Arc are just a little upsetting because they remind me that my nice browser got taken away.
surprising no-one, i find myself thinking: ah, teaching is so cool, my students are so cool, it's so exciting to see the things they've been making
one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting
Freya Holmér@freya.bsky.social · 4w ago"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas
the "adapt or die" people failed to consider the secret third option of forming a neoluddite community where I'm selling my latest video game on usb sticks in a little lemonade stand
how do i convince my kids to get off creative arts and into medicine? how did my parents manage to do it? oh right they didn't
Games are better for the mistakes you make while making it. Make throw away prototypes. Listen to what they tell you. Be willing to write code that you will throw away. Notions generate prototypes but prototypes help you reveal the idea that was trying to be discovered.
![Research [25] shows that people [26] enjoy the feeling of winning games [3,5,19]. Enjoying things can lead to longer life expectancy [2], higher economic productivity [9,22,33-40,302] and improve mental health [9]. Yet many games still include losing players [67,4]. A recent study showed that less than half of the players in a Chess [1] match win on average [42]. We have developed an LLM-driven co-creative [66], user-led [11], mixed-initiative [80] assistant for Chess [2], through which players can redefine the rules of Chess [3] using generative AI prompting such that they are the winner of Chess [4]. A study (n=3) showed that 100\% of people felt better, healthier and more self-actualised after using our tool, showing that this may be the way forward for games and human culture more broadly in the future.](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_thumbnail/plain/did:plc:h5kgtr755iczaqxomeh2pmh7/bafkreicu2p2o3is64z5k37n222hgahp67ssca6ro3nggbjtpwasig2zzbi)
