my uncle died a couple years ago and my mom gave me hundreds of his unopened vintage action figures and toys and this might be the most tedious inheritance i can imagine

I am in basically as good an insurance situation as exists in America - I work in big tech and my wife has a union engineering job at an agency whose major selling point is "our benefits are absolutely insane" our dental insurance response to major orthodontic work was "lol fuck off"
Put this shit up in neon lights. One of the dentists at my dentist actually had a forty minute conversation with me in the lobby about the history of dental insurance, the politics of dentistry, and dental care which has led to our current fucked situation.
A hearty f*** you to Adobe for the platform-wide licensing system that makes it impossible for me to use both my university license to Acrobat Pro and my personal license to their Creative Suite at the same time. I remember when buying a software package meant you could use it, no bullshit.
A Senate candidate talking about the Powell memo???? Pinch me, am I dreaming????
James Talarico: 50 years ago, a corporate lawyer named Lewis Powell circulated a memo around DC — a blueprint for how corporations could amass political power, reverse the gains of the Great Society and the New Deal, and rig the system for themselves. And it worked.
Then Toad poured a glass of water over his head.
huh wonder why people are rebelling against this technology oh well guess we’ll never know

Drone warnings, sheltering in airports: South Korea battles historic heatwave
The president has called the extreme heat a "national disaster" and ordered agencies to mobilise all resources.

Angry. Angry at the needless losses to science, to America, to the world. Angry at the profound, arrogant ignorance. Angry at the individual pain and losses. Angry at the absolute enormity of the human cost, not just in future losses, but immediate deaths and suffering.
US scientists: Going into fall 26, how are you thinking about things? Following Fall 24 events and a tumultuous spring 25, I remember a convo with a colleague in which we agreed we just needed to wait things out until fall 25 and we'd have some clarity about the landscape (eg for funding). /1
I have seen this going by today but have been busy, thankfully, which means by the time I looked deeper the additional context of "2022" had been surfaced. They've shoved this shit down our throats so hard it feels like we've been fighting forever, but most folks knew NOTHING about LLMs in 2022
Eugenia has already said here everything I was going to say about this. One thing I will add is that the lasting thing I gained following this project was a deep hatred for AI slop and LLMs as anyone who has heard me speak on ths subject since knows. I saw how the sausage was made and rejected it.
The major city in America to have the last socialist mayor before Mamdani and NYC? Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Haymarket was here in Chicago. Eugene Debs was from Terra Haute, Indiana. He helped organize the Pullman Strike, in Chicago. Minnesota’s Dem Party is actually a Farmer-Labor party. Etc.
I want El-Sayed to win for a lot of reasons but id be lying if i said getting the “sure it works in New York and California but it can’t work in middle America” people to shut the fuck up wasn’t high on my list.
When the classroom got these joints you couldn’t tell us shit, Limewire was going UP buddy
it's a disservice to the public to run an old photo of him with this article when there's zero actual current photographic evidence of the events described in the story

Gender studies might be the most vindicated academic field of all time
Really? Because I keep seeing them in charge of everything from car dealerships to the White House, and they seem to doing just fine despite their obvious handicaps.
Call in now if you’ve also had your ex-wife kill your horse due to a marital dispute.
For the 1 millionth time as someone who works at a university, this was never a thing. Men like Rufo are just mad because women and people of color were finally beginning to be treated as equals in academia, which meant that morons like him couldn't lord their mediocrity over them anymore...
Here Klein half agrees with Rufo's sweeping claims, for which he provides no evidence, that "the institutions" were "anti-white."/6

Gonna go out on a limb here and say racist cranks who write for extremist white nationalist websites like VDARE should not, in fact, be confirmed to top roles in the Department of Justice.
SCHIFF: You told my staff you stood by your article in white nationalist website VDARE where you wrote, 'Muslim immigrants & their kids seem prone to terrorism' C: I wrote that article in support of Trump's travel ban S: Do you stand by it? C: I stand by that article S: That's all I need to know

El-Sayed: We live in an era where we continue to see a few very small people try to define America as being as small as they are. We can't control the past 250 years. What we can do is build the next 250
The media's takeaway from an El-Sayed win is the same as it would have been from a Stevens win, and the same as it will be if El-Sayed wins the general, or if he loses it: everyone, no matter who they are, needs to take several steps to the right.
