I am so sorry to hear about Torbjörn's passing. He was a great scholar & a genuinely generous person. As one of my MA thesis supervisors, he was the first senior academic who made me feel that my opinions on coalition research were worth taking seriously. My thoughts are with his family & loved ones.

Just heard of the passing of the Swedish political scientist Torbjörn Bergman, with whom I did some work a while back that allowed me to spend a few fab days with him up north in Umeå. He was a great scholar - particularly on coalition politics - and, most importantly, a really lovely bloke. RIP.

Really sad to hear that Torbjörn Bergman passed away. I had the pleasure to meet and to work with him as a junior scholar, and will never forget his kindness and his enthusiasm. This came way too early and my thoughts are with Torbjörn's family and close friends.

New paper out in the @thejop.bsky.social (w/ @christinagahn.bsky.social) Do opinion polls shape election results? Using both cross-national data and a survey experiment, the answer we find is yes - though it depends on how we communicate polling results. www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/...

Image showing the abstract of the paper "Self-Fulfilling Prophecies at the Voting Booth" by Werner Krause and Christina Gahn, published in the Journal of Politics. The abstract describes a quasi-experimental study across 25 countries finding that parties polling just below electoral thresholds are approximately 45 percentage points less likely to clear them, and that this effect diminishes when voters are informed about polling uncertainty.

Does far-right legislative representation change the descriptive make-up of candidate lists among mainstream parties? Using a RDD with registry data from Sweden, this paper led by @grahn.bsky.social provides an answer doi.org/10.1017/psrm...
