I’m disappointed that the source of this viral but incorrect story about a tragic medevac crash is John Wiseman, whose aviation tracking I’ve long respected. And that this tragedy is being used to further a narrative about GPS jamming that I am sympathetic to, but draws the wrong conclusions. 🧵

The crew of N249CP made several bad decisions that night. If pilots were perfect we wouldn't need GPS, ADS-B, GPWS, TCAS… www.wired.com/story/a-civi...

Proficiency in flying precision approaches, of which ILS is the most common, is a requirement for an instrument rating. That approach was not legal to fly on that night given the NOTAM’d out of service AWOS.

It fucking says a lot that CPS took Pete Buttigieg’s kids away on the basis of an anonymous complaint, while Max Miller still has joint custody of his child.

Teams with higher payrolls stink. Teams with lower payrolls are right in it. The fact that the Dodgers are VERY good and have a VERY high payroll is going to be used deceptively, in bad faith, to try to pit fans against the union.

LA should cut ties with Flock Safety. Cities across the country are canceling their Flock contracts over the risks its license plate readers pose to privacy, civil liberties, and immigrant communities. LAPD is doing the opposite: renegotiating a surveillance network that Angelenos never agreed to.

The kind of person that shits on people as "terrible at numbers" for taking guaranteed $50k over 50% chance at 1M probably also looks down on people who buy lotto tickets. What deserves shame is the house stealing from people with mathematical certainly, not the gambler.

And from all accounts, it looks like Taylor Farms just...... kept selling tainted lettuce, while there was an active outbreak going on. After the first week or two, they HAD to have known it could have been them. And we have no idea what, if anything, they did to try & fix it.

Every war incurs a debt, one whose true cost can never be fully measured. Everyone who serves pays something. Birthdays and wedding anniversaries are missed. A child’s first steps pass unseen. Time is surrendered. Yet war is an unforgiving creditor. These are the soldiers who paid the full measure.

It is interesting because the US systems around immigration, foreign aid, scientific research, education, healthcare, as well as trade and diplomacy have also stopped working, but food poisoning is deeply personal and visceral in a way that spares no one.

Both events, it must be stressed, are a direct result of exactly the kind of stupid-and-cruel warfighting that Pete Hegseth promised to bring to the US military and has delivered. Our army will become, by inches, more and more like the Russian one: cruel, incompetent, impotent, incapable, wicked.

It's also telling that it's always people who have aged out and are essentially saying that if we steal a couple of years of other people's lives it will somehow fix some undefined problems that we, as older people, have created.

On Pensacola and what came before in SC, DC, TN and TX. For the record, I am no longer certain the FAA has full control of the NAS. There is some history here, from 1958, especially on the crashes that year of UAL flight 736 & Capital Airlines flight 300. colleenmondor.substack.com/p/52-the-nat...

For no particular reason, remembering the squadron commander who ran out of gas on short final to Bastion because, it turns out, he liked to play chicken with the fuel gauge. He's at NORTHCOM now.
