Is a socialist candidate electable in a purple state? A modestly interesting question. A more interesting question: what if socialist candidates, despite facing opposition from their own party, not only win, but overperform? What if the moderate assumption of themselves as “electable” is exposed?

One drum I keep beating is that the Trumpification of the Republican Party is irreversible. Even after he's gone it will be exclusively cranks, charlatans, and malevolent antisocial goons. "It was always like that"-it wasn't! It's gotten steadily, measurably worse, and he was the nail in the coffin

New, from me: It is fine to disagree with aspects of the pandemic response. But what we saw at Fauci's hearing was something different: a show trial where cranks tried to threaten and shift blame to an public servant. Here is why this is bad for all of us.🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/watching-t...

want to be clear there are absolutely big differences b/t Dems & GOP, don’t ascribe to all-the-same, and that said, it’s awfully telling how many high profile Dems now profess to prefer a Republican in office than a progressive and how that appears to be driven by who is closer to their values

Yes, stupid immoral assholes have done far too well for basically forever, but right now, it feels like being a stupid immoral asshole has become the ONLY way to do well. That is a problem.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social · 6d ago

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

Concerns over fake phenomena cannot be held in good faith. There's no such thing as "good faith" concern over razorblades in Halloween apples or vaccines causing autism. If you still have 'concerns' about these issues you are uninformed, a bigot or being manipulated. No other option.

I would like to stop for a while. Caring about politics, and about family, and about employment and finances, and about all the responsibilities that come with not being one of the most upper echelon of society, has become exhausting. I will not offload this to my wife, but I would like to stop.

"The DSA is taking advantage of Black voters losing power in the South!" Oh wow, Black voters are losing power in the South? I wonder why that's happening and if there were any signs or actions that could have been taken to prevent that, particularly for a party like the Democrats.

Democrats to me, a 40 year old to their left: whoa there junior, the adults in the room are talking. Why don’t you cool your jets and let common sense win? Republicans to a 17 year old in a bad suit saying slurs: perfect. Here’s a Ford F350. We will pay you 150k to record TikToks inside it.

I remember times when we had a functioning government, and these were rare events, and the sources were quickly identified so that we knew exactly what to avoid, and the products were quickly pulled from shelves. We've never gotten what we deserve from our taxes, but we used to get something.

New: State health officials say parsley and cilantro appear to be linked to surging cyclospora cases in North Carolina The disclosure comes as the FDA says it’s investigating a new outbreak linked to an unidentified source. Unclear if the two are related www.consumerreports.org/health/food-...

As with Uncommitted you can sit there and demand that someone vote for harm mitigation as a rational, narrow choice, but if you’re also demanding that someone *feel good about it* or speak positively about a candidate who is attacking their community, you need to go touch grass.

Whats worse... A single Democratic loss in a statewide race to a right-wing governor? Or a Democratic Party win in Ohio that uses transphobia to get there, teaching dems across the country that this is a new acceptable tactic? The latter results in no party left to fight for us.

RoxyDog@roxydog.bsky.social · 2w ago

I understand your disappointment but why do you want to undermine the Democrat in this race? You think Ramaswamy will have your back? These purity tests are what gave us trump and his Supreme Court.

so the thing is, she's going to lose, and when she loses, the people whose losing advice she's following, people like Ygl, are going to blame "the groups" instead of the badness of their own advice. Selling out the civil rights of minorities can never fail, it can only be failed.

For my newsletter, I wrote about Ohio Dem governor candidate Amy Acton adopting the right wing extremist framing of trans issues. www.burnsnotice.com/amy-acton-tr...

The Constitution says nothing about political parties in the House of Representatives. The House ITSELF has the duty to impeach—not the majority party, nor the minority party. The House. As a whole. In the name of itself and of the people of the United States of America.

as others are saying, there is very real harm done by normalizing this or accepting it in the D party. it's like asking people to vote for someone shouting racist slurs. it's bad.

1. In major news, the Ohio Dem Party has banned the Progressive Caucus from criticizing candidate for Gov. Amy Acton's transphobia. It has now applied more pressure to quiet criticism of anti-trans politics than it has on its own nominee to stop embracing them. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Ohio Dem Party Has Banned Criticism Of Gov. Candidate Amy Acton Calling Trans Girls “Boys”

The Progressive Caucus says it was forced to take down its post.

“Biological sex as a specific term and concept is a recent fake invention that only exists to attack and exclude trans people” is one of those wild things that is completely true but makes you sound insane to ppl who don’t know it already. Like no, we didn’t say this 20 years ago, you’ve been gaslit

Searching for a job feels so dehumanizing. You spend hours every day trying to sell yourself to anyone who will buy, only to be passed over by most of them, ignored by some of them, knowing that an unknown portion of them aren't actually buying. The interested spend weeks gauging your quality.

Every day this guy does something like this and every day the same people who dress him up as a terrifying commie destroyer of civilization do a dozen things to sabotage the public good, to murder and destroy and hate and kill, and I can't anymore handle those who won't see the clear difference.

This summer, we kept the lights on all night, every night, at five soccer fields across New York City.

This was the scene at Calvert Vaux Park in Gravesend, Brooklyn Tuesday night.

The news is always "This absolute fool was dismantled in hearings today. He is manifestly unqualified for the position and would be an existential danger if confirmed. Disaster. He is set to be confirmed immediately." When you ask why everyone is furious and exhausted all the time, this is why.
