So recently I've discovered that historical wargaming minis are about 1/3 the price of games workshop,

it's important to remember that the people selling (failing to sell) this technology believe that everyone else on earth is a mark, a rube, &c, and will cheerfully and shamelessly lie about it, like so:
All software now is developed using AI.
today i am being a hedgehog taxi. i have brought one hedgehog up north and exchanged it for two hedgehogs coming south which is imho a really great deal on hedgehogs
This is the oldest* surviving Snakes & Ladders board in the world. Specifically, it's Gyan Chaupar, the Game of Knowledge. It's from the late 18th Century, but the game is much older - paper & cloth are not resilient media. The ladders represent virtue, the snakes vice. The scorpions are decorative.
With #SpyroCommunityDay tomorrow I'd like todo my usual thing and share some media from my Spyro in Half-Life mod that is starting to near its 10th anniversary scarily enough! It was a really fun project and it always sticks in the back of my mind to return to it one day... #gamedev #indiedev
Hint systems often feel like looking the answer up, which is really dissatisfying and doesn't teach you anything. But this feels like a teacher modifying a problem and asking "What would you do if it looked like this instead?" and it feels rewarding to get it right and then solve the main puzzle.
The hint system in this game is so good. I don't think I've ever seen a game do this before - it teleports you into a different, simpler puzzle room that tries to show you an idea you'll need to solve the original puzzle. Incredibly effective, feels like it's inspired by real-life teaching?

it is kind of wild how 'ai' was a perfectly useful term for decades in talking about npc behavior in video games and now you cant use it without seeming like youre flagging allegiance to the death cult
The quotable Tarn Adams: "It just reminds me of like a fucking Dead Kennedys song or something."
found some old cds i had as a kid when visiting my parents over the weekend. hell yeah
I love videogames. As an entire medium. Sometimes a game can be a Commercial Product for Games Machine, made of Light And Sound that Generates Dopamine. And sometimes it can be an anomalous web-page, and a spiralling tangle of genres and styles that makes you feel complex, messy feelings.
come experience the game that some are describing as "free" and "playable in your browser at lithobreakers.itch.io/splat-with-p... " and if you make any of the crafts in real life, please send me a picture of them so i can print it out and put it on the fridge. xoxo, cable bastard 1994
Totally optional detail I spent way too much time in the WIP #counterstrike map; was the interior of this pizza oven which has steam effect, heat effect, led flicker, and bubbly-motion cooking effect on the models. Lighting is still being worked on. #goldsrc #gamedev #lowpoly
i have a crt monitor that does 1600x1200@85hz, and i am always thinking about how like. the resolution race would just not be happening if it wasn't for LCDs having the concept of native res. 640x480 is fine, our monitors are just bad
I consider my PC barely able to play Alan Wake 2 because I use a 3840x1440 display and at that res it's mega heavy, and LCDs look too shitty at other-than-native res to be worth bothering, but the CRT can go all the way down to 1024x768 before it stops looking great, so I can play with path tracing
Hi, I made a steam page for my game, Soft Ruin. If it seems interesting, please consider giving it a wishlist. Thanks! store.steampowered.com/app/2882230/...
my first action game was sonic 2 and it was several years before i got past chemical plant act 2. i just didn't have the coordination and dexterity, or the "feel" for games in general that i have now!
the first action-y game I ever played (as in, involving movement and fast decision making) was Mario 64. I played it at a friend's house and I sucked at it to the degree of: the idea of there being a boss at the top of whomp's fortress felt like a mere urban legend to me
"LibreOffice 26.8 contains no generative AI features. Documents are not transmitted to remote services for processing, and no component of the suite requires network access to function. This is a deliberate position."
LibreOffice 26.8 is now available with a new Paragraph Composer in Writer, native OpenType variable font support, Calc improvements, and better document compatibility. linuxiac.com/libreoffice-... #OpenSource #OfficeSuite
I feel like games that are fun to play and games that are fun to make can be pretty different.
Here's a cool #Mario #Romhack I just played "Shovel Mario" by @segment1zone2.bsky.social "KaidenThelens" & "Donut" In this hack, Mario gets a new shovel-based moveset with new attacks & tricks to master Link: www.smwcentral.net?p=viewthread... #romhacking #gaming #SMW #SNES #Nintendo #SuperMario
If you ever feel bad about botching your indie game release, remember that you'll never be as bad as Ubisoft. They literally forgot to upload the actual game.
