Experiencing history for yourself – that's what makes historical reenactment so worthwhile. GenA.I. has no place in teaching or learning about history, especially when you and your audience can step right into it and experience it for themselves.

I believe this as well and it has changed profoundly how I see various periods in history, too.
One of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.
While I was away @nearmintcon.bsky.social posted a HUGE video going behind the scenes at Rebellion! Omar and Melanie visited the Nerve Centre, toured our archive, witnessed comics repro, and spoke to @molcher.bsky.social and @mysterypickles.bsky.social! youtu.be/uDripsuYJaw?...

This notion that the purpose of writing essays is to have an essay-shaped object to hold at the end of it is just... wild, and incredibly widely held apparently? Have these people never... written an essay?
The point isn't to produce essays, it's to teach students how to think for fuck's sake. The minute you automate that, it's over. You might as well close the course. Which they're also doing. This is an attack on learning, and everyone is just shrugging.
Having witnessed many small groups split off from a larger group because they want to be in charge, I give this a year before they turn on each other.
All the money you could ever possibly need, and the best name you can come up with for your fake micronation is "Liberland"? 🤡 www.bbc.com/news/article...
'Scything into the humanities is generational self-harm that will become civilizational if it continues. ... The skills nurtured in the humanities are not an optional extra. They are critical for us to remain ourselves.'
'The humanities are vital for distinctly human skills, including judgment, proportion and the ability to approach problems that have no empirical answer. There is no future in which these skills are not vital.' (And yes, both the 'great' university trope and the platform are ick). 1/2
Lots of writers now only quote from original interviews, archives or physical books -- anything else is too dangerous. It takes forever and I'm not sure there's another way.

Getting through Mondays can be like pulling teeth 😂🦷 Our barber surgeon may be adept at treating toothworm, but perhaps he needs to see an optician!! A great scene played out at our recent Foxdenton Hall event, showing the perils of 17th Century medical treatment – for both patient AND doctor!

Quarter of a million people now fleeing out of control wildfires in France and Spain, and it is still acceptable for leaders of apparently mainstream political parties (Badenoch, Trump, Farage) to deny climate science, cheered on by the Murdoch press.
We're on fire and, in order to pressure the new government, yesterday's papers declared that "net zero" will result in power cuts.
A massive wildfire broke out yesterday in Gallipoli, Italy, tearing through pine forests along the northern coastline. Driven by strong Tramontana winds, the fire spread rapidly between the coastal areas of Padula Bianca and Rivabella, forcing the evacuation of beaches and nearby residential areas.
This is the equivalent of asking how a £1.5m turnover company is going to pay for £100 of drinks at the Xmas party.
I actually think the trillionaire saying his AI tool will remake a movie without the Black and trans actors in it should be a bigger story because it’s a perfect example of why the ruling class wants AI to succeed: so they can remake reality without those they deem undesirable - every nazi’s dream.
Made pretty perfect (for me) six minute eggs for lunch earlier and I'm rather pleased with myself.
