Today a preeminent climate scientist said that building a bike lane in Berkeley California is bad because not everyone can bike to get groceries. The US climate movement has a cars blindspot, and it's why we aren't making progress the way other countries are.
It is truly crazy-making how many public health and climate researchers *do not seem to understand* the impact that cars have on the field they study.

The cognitive dissonance of car culture is exhausting. People foam at the mouth when you propose funding walkability, bikes, and high quality public transit. They aggressively fight against the exact non-car mobility options that would actually solve the traffic they endlessly complain about.
I have long told my clients facing displacement that evictions are a form of violence. An eviction is never the first bad thing to happen to someone, and is often the tipping point that kicks off full-blown crisis and a rapid downward spiral. The shootings today were a tragedy beget by tragedy.
